SEMEN ANALYSIS

Your appointment will be scheduled either 8-10am or 1:30-2pm.
Semen Analysis is the primary evaluation of male fertility. Parameters that will be evaluated are volume, viscosity (thickness), number of sperm present, motility, and morphology (shape) of the sperm.
The semen analysis is done at;
COLLECTION OF THE SPECIMEN
The specimen should be obtained by masturbation after at least 48 hours of abstinence. It must be delivered to the laboratory within 2 hours of collection. If either condition cannot be met, or if you have problems with collecting the specimen, please speak with your provider. If needed there are special "collection condoms" available. Do not use a regular condom for collection.
Ejaculate directly into a sterile specimen container (available at any Kaiser Permanente Lab). Be sure that the collection is complete and that it all is collected, especially the first portion. Be sure to put the lid on tight!
DELIVERY OF THE SPECIMEN
Label the container with your Medical Record Number, Name, Name of the MD/RNP, and the time the specimen was collected. To maintain confidentiality, please bring your specimen container in a small paper bag.
Avoid extreme heat or cold. If the day is cold, carry the container in a pocket close to your body.
Deliver the specimen to the Kaiser Permanente Andrology Lab at Marina Playa, building 100, 2nd floor. Please place it in the special designated "REI" basket on the counter of the lab at your scheduled Appointment time.
