Writing Assignment
Connect some aspect of To Kill a Mockingbird and two other works with the theme of convergence of cultures discussing positive and negative outcomes resulting from the cultures joining.
You will do a rough draft for this assignment on Day 5 (in class) and Day 10 (turn in that day completed). The final draft will be due on Day 15.
The paper should be 2-4 pages in MLA format. Quotations should be used from each story to further your discussion.

You want to connect the paper to the theme of the unit utilizing passages from the works to support the paper.
Fill out the bio poem worksheet and present your poem to the class omitting the character’s first name to see if the class can guess the character by the traits. Turn in for a grade.

Write down your initial response to Whitman and Hughes’ poems and then write why you think Hughes respond to Whitman’s poem in the tone that he does. How do the poems relate to our theme of convergence if cultures.

Pick a character preferably one of which you have strong feelings. Write something that you want to tell the character that may help them through their situation or enlighten them. Anything you want to say to the character. It needs to be two paragraphs and write in second person talking directly to the character. You can read or perform the paragraph in front of the class.
