Supporting the Circus
The following was taken from the National Circus Prevention Society Website:
- The society was established in 1980 to preserve and protect animals performing in circuses as an important part of Americana.
- Their purpose is to develop, promote, and advance information
and knowledge for a better understanding of the American Circus and to preserve it.
- They encourage and foster the captive propagation of the
endangered species and other performing animals by circus
trainers and breeders.
- To captivate and encourage the humane handling, care, and highest standards of medical attention to all circus animals.
- To encourage reasonable and practical legislation, rules, and
regulation, which protects the healthy well-being of circus animals.
- To create and foster public opinion favorable to the objectives and purposes of the society.
- To do everything and anything reasonable and lawfully necessary,
proper, suitable or convenient for the achievement of the purposes stated
or for any of them or for the furtherance of said purposes.
- They collect and publish information about circuses and provide videos to schools and libraries.
- They encourage the development and teaching of courses about the circus at all educational levels.
- Provide knowledgeable speakers about the circuses to schools.
This organization is determined to have animals perform
in circuses and is opposed to organizations wanting to ban what they believe
in. They regularly have conventions
supporting the circus all across the United States. This is just one organization
supporting circuses, there are many more, but The National Circus Prevention
Society is the most prominent.
This organization might want animals to have the best medical benefits and be handled humanely, but they are not there to regulate each and every circus and the deaths of animals and people show inadequate care
and abuse.
