Amber/Weaver Story

For those of you who don’t know Amber is a character I made up to be with Kerry, I think that they make a better couple then Kerry and Sandy. Thank you.

Please don’t stop reading

It was the Christmas party for county general and everyone who could attend did, Amber sat in a chair by herself by the Christmas tree as Kerry wondered how Carter talked her into having this at her house. Amber was dressed in a black pants suit with beautiful high heels and she had on a fleece hat but she didn’t look like she was in the holiday spirit. Weaver walked over to her and sat down next to her, hoping that maybe she could cheer Amber up, or at least get her to have a good time.

“Hey, what’s wrong you seem depressed.” Weaver said before taking another drink of her spiced eggnog, she had to remind herself not to drink too much, she didn’t want to be drunk at her own party.

“Oh I’m fine, just hungry is all.” Amber replied then she crossed her legs and leaned forward uncomfortably, her tone was rather pale but Weaver always thought that she had fair skin.

“Well there is plenty of food set out…” She motioned to a table where there was tons of food, some of it was stuff she had made herself but other people had brought things because she said she wouldn’t let them in if they didn’t. Amber looked at the food for a moment and then to Kerry, and then back to the food almost as if she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“Oh…can I have some?” She replied in a very casual tone of voice, Weaver looked at her funny for just a moment before nodding yes. Amber smiled slightly, she got up and walked over to the food but she didn’t even bother with a plate. She was mostly eating cookies and other sweets that had been set out but she did have some turkey or at least that’s what Weaver thought. Amber was eating so fast Kerry couldn’t tell what Amber was eating, Carter then came over and sat down in the chair that Amber was in a moment ago.

“Does that seem weird to you?” Weaver asked him trying to point in the direction of Amber without being too obvious. There was a crowd of people standing in front of her now and Carter couldn’t see her very well but from what he gathered she was eating.

“Amber getting food weird?” He laughed slightly and then looked back to her, “How much have you had to drink?”

“Shut up Carter.” She smiled at him and continued to watch Amber as she picked up food and shoved it into her mouth, it seemed like she was barely even taking time to breathe. Weaver stood up and made her way over to Amber, hoping to slow her down before she choked on something. “Amber slow down it’s not going anywhere.” Amber stopped suddenly and looked at her hands, she wiped her mouth on her sleeve and then looked at Kerry.

“Oh god…” She whimpered before running off in the direction of the bathroom, Weaver sighed and figured she was sick from eating so much so fast. She couldn’t help but wonder why Amber was eating like that, or why she had asked if it was okay to eat in the first place. She shrugged it off telling herself that maybe Amber was under a lot of stress and was a little out of character for the night. Soon she would find out the answer to her question, and she would realize that she might have just saved someone’s life.

A week later Amber was getting ready to leave work when Weaver stopped her, Weaver was getting ready to go home too but she had noticed that Amber was starting to lose weight and considering the fact that Amber was never overweight it was bugging her.

“Amber I…”

“Oh, I was just about to invite you over for dinner tonight, if you aren’t too busy that is.” Amber interrupted her before she could finish her thought. Amber sounded rather happy and Weaver decided that if she was being invited over for dinner then at least she could check out Amber’s eating habits.

“Sure I’d love to…” Weaver smiled at her and they started to walk out of the hospital together, “What are we having?”

“Whatever Darien wants.” She replied heading for her car, Weaver shrugged wondering who Darien was and why it was up to him.

“Who’s Darien?”

“My fiancé…hurry up he’ll be very angry if I’m late.” Amber’s voice remained happy as she said that and she took the keys to her car out of her purse, Weaver quickened her pace a bit but she started to worry about making Darien angry.

They arrived at Amber’s glorious estate at 8:05, Weaver took notice to how Amber was starting to act. She went from being very happy and kind to being a nervous wreck, she parked the car in the driveway and took the keys out of the ignition before clutching them in her hand. She started to mutter something to herself and Kerry could swear she heard Amber say something about her being crippled.

“We are late because you walk slow.” Amber said to her before getting out of the car and slamming the door behind her. Normally Weaver would have taken offence to that but she was almost certain that there was something else going on here.

“Amber…”

“No time to explain, besides he won’t get mad if company is here.” She said as she unlocked the door, Weaver began to feel a little nervous and she reached into her pocket to make sure her cell phone was in there. Amber let Weaver walk in before her and then shut the door behind the both of them, “Darien I’m home and I brought my boss.”

“You don’t have to call me that…”

“Yes I do, it’s out of respect.” Amber forced a smile and set her keys down on the table by the door before walking into the house more, Weaver followed reluctantly. Darien appeared from around the corner, he was tall dark and handsome with obvious muscles that were outlined in the shirt he was wearing. He smiled kindly at Weaver before pulling Amber into a passionate kiss which she didn’t resist.

“You must be Dr. Weaver, Amber has nothing but nice things to say about you.” He said in a deep voice that seemed eerily soothing and calm. Weaver was almost surprised to find out that some one was speaking highly of her but she didn’t mention that.

“You can call me Kerry,” She held out her hand to him and he took it and shook it gently, she was beginning to feel more relaxed, this certainly wasn’t a man who seemed to be angry or threatening and she wasn’t yet able to figure out why Amber had gotten so nervous, “She was worried about being late.”

“Oh…it’s okay I mean we can’t always be on time can we?” He smiled at her and then started to walk, Amber followed behind him and Weaver followed her, “I ordered pizza thinking that you didn’t want to cook after work.” Amber’s expression went to a look of shock, he never ordered out unless she was having some one over and she began to realize that there was no way in hell he was going to act like an ass around company so she sighed and loosened up a bit.

“That sounds really good.” Amber replied her voice more calm and her body less shaky, Weaver didn’t know what Amber was so afraid of but she seemed to be okay now. Maybe she was worried about him worrying about her but they did seem like a sweet couple. They walked into the kitchen where the pizza was set out on the table with three plates, Weaver wondered how he knew that she was going to be there. “I told him that you might be coming over for dinner, so I guess he just planned ahead.” Amber turned to look at her when she said that her face going back to the happy expression it was during the day. The three of them sat down and started to eat, well the two of them did, Amber wasn’t eating anything because she insisted on watching her weight. Weaver thought that was odd and tried to coax her into eating but she just shook her head.

“Oh come on, one slice of pizza isn’t going to hurt.” Darien said looking over at her, it was almost as if she was waiting for his approval or maybe Weaver was just imagining things. She had known Amber for only a short time and in that short time Amber always acted weird around food, maybe it was just a thing she had. Amber nodded slightly and took a slice of pizza and started to eat it slowly, almost like she was savoring every bite.

“You know it’s true what they say, Chicago makes the best pizza.” Amber said and she reached for her coke.

“I hear that.” Weaver replied now that she was finally able to relax her stomach was screaming that it was hungry and so she ate, realizing that things were completely fine between the two of them. She knew that every relationship had fights here and there but for the most part Amber and Darien seemed very happy with each other and she told herself that she was going to stop reading into it so much…for now.

Two weeks later Amber showed up at work with a black eye that was mostly hidden by makeup but Weaver’s had seen other women try to cover up bruises before and she knew something was wrong. She started to walk towards Amber, and when Amber noticed her she turned and started to walk the other direction.

“Amber.” Weaver called out but Amber pretended like she didn’t hear that and she kept walking, she didn’t know where she was going yet but she did know she wanted to get away from Weaver. “AMBER!” this time she shouted it loud enough that Amber has to stop, there was no way she could pretend like she didn’t hear that. She stopped and turned around crossing her arms over her chest looking annoyed.

“What is it Kerry?”

“What happened to your face?” Weaver got closer to her and reached up to touch Amber’s face gently but Amber moved her head away.

“I fell off my horse, it’s no big deal.” She responded before turning around and walking again, Weaver continued to follow her she wasn’t exactly satisfied with that answer. Suddenly Amber stopped and turned to look at Weaver again, “Have you ever ridden a horse? Or even fallen off of one?”

“Well…”

“That’s what I thought…on the way down one of the stirrups smacked me in the face.” She replied her voice laced with attitude. The story seemed like a likely one and since Weaver had never ridden or fallen off of a horse there was no way she could prove that Amber was lying.

“How are things with Darien?” Weaver started to walk with her down the hall, Amber shrugged slightly before she stepped into the bathroom with Kerry still behind her. She walked up to the mirror and started to examine her face wondering how in the world Kerry knew that she had a mark there.

“Things are going just fine with Darien.” She brought her fingers up to her eye and pushed at the bruise a little and winced. She sighed and got a compact out of her pocket and started to apply more make up to it. “We are just fine.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’ve never been so sure in my life. Now if you will excuse me I have patients to see.” With that she turned around and pushed past Weaver to get to the door. Weaver turned and watched her go not knowing what to believe. The story about falling off the horse did seem probable, and she realized she was reading too much into everything again. She took a deep breath and then walked out of the door to the ladies room, telling herself that she was just overreacting. It was only human nature for her to think that way, no one WANTS to believe that some one close to them is getting hurt sometimes it’s just easier to let it go.

The days that passed soon turned to weeks and then too months, Weaver had provided a steady shoulder for Amber to cry on when needed. It wasn’t until Amber told her that she was her only source of unconditional love did Weaver get worried. She knew that if things were going okay with Darien then Amber most certainly wouldn’t have told her that. It was now the day after Amber had made her declaration, and Weaver decided that she had to confront Amber on it. Amber wasn’t at work, she had called in sick, that just worried Weaver even more. She decided that she would go to Amber’s house and see how she was doing, to make sure that there was no foul play involved. When she got there she knocked on the door, she heard the two dogs barking in the back yard but no answer, she knocked again and the door swung open slowly. First she poked her head inside and when she decided that it was safe she walked in and shut the door behind her.

“Amber?” She called fearing for the worst, “Amber are you here? Are you okay?” when she didn’t get an answer she proceeded towards the stairs, she called out for Amber again but there was still no reply/ She took in a shaky breath and headed up the stairs praying that Amber wasn’t laying dead on the floor of her bedroom. “Amber?” she stepped into the bedroom when she heard some soft music playing. Amber was sitting on the bed curled up with one of her wrists tied to the bed post. Her whole body was shaking, her nose was bleeding and so was her lip, there was a bruise forming under one eye that was already swollen shut.

“Kerry you have to go…he’ll be back…” She whispered and wrapped her free arm around her knees. Weaver could barely bring herself to speak, she could hardly believe the sight that she saw before her and she didn’t know what she was supposed to do.

“Well if he comes back I’ll kick his ass.” She headed over to the bed and reached up to untie Amber’s wrist from the post.

“NO!” She screeched and pushed Weaver away, “I have to stay here! No food no water…I was bad.”

“Excuse me?” Weaver gave up on trying to untie her for the moment and she took a seat on the edge of the bed, “What did you do that was so bad?”

“I had a cup cake and I didn’t ask.” She whispered her tone was completely serious and yet it sounded like she truly believed that she was bad for doing that, “No food for two days…not until I’m a good girl and I can control myself.”

“AMBER!” Weaver suddenly grabbed her by her shoulders and shook her roughly, “SNAP OUT OF IT!” Amber looked at her, her eyes glazed like a deer caught in the headlights of a truck. She was gone, well the Amber she knew was gone and she had been replaced with a scared little girl.

“I was bad Kerry.” She looked down at the sheets on the bed that were spotted with blood from her face, “I deserve this.”

“No you don’t! No one does!” Weaver replied and once again she started to untie Amber’s wrist from the bed post but this time when Amber tried to push her away she pushed back. By doing that she only scared Amber more but in turn she was able to untie the woman’s wrist which was red and bloody from the struggling she had been doing.

“If he finds me untied…”

“What? He’ll beat you? Kill you? Amber we need to get out of this house right now.” Weaver stood up and pulled Amber with her. Amber was only in a small silk negligee, her ribs and spine were visible and her breathing was a little irregular. “I need to get you to the hospital.”

“NO! He’ll be mad!”

“SCREW HIM!” Weaver shouted and she started to pull Amber towards the door, it took a moment but Amber slowly started to comply and Weaver hoped that she wasn’t just complying because she was scared. As they left the house Weaver took one last look around, Amber had everything anyone could ever want a huge house, tons of money, four different luxury cars waiting for her in her garage, she was a doctor that graduated from Harvard medical school at the stop of her class, she was a black belt in karate and very intelligent, but now because of one man she was blind to all of that. It was something Weaver was going to have to change even if she had to put her own life on the line.

That night Amber was sitting on Weaver’s couch and Sandy was not liking the fact that Kerry had brought some one to stay with them. Amber could hear loud voices in the other room but she didn’t bother listening to what they were saying, she was so scared that Darien was going to come and get her. The TV was on but she wasn’t watching it, just staring blankly when she heard a loud slap. Her head jerked in the direction of the noise and she realized that some one had been hit. A few moment later Weaver came out of the bedroom with a hand on her face but she was trying to play it off like nothing was wrong.

“Did Sandy just…”

“It’s none of your business.” Weaver snapped at her suddenly and headed into the kitchen, not being in a good state of mind Amber just sort of shrugged it off. Darien hit her all the time and it had become just a normal thing to her so she wasn’t going to say anything else about it. Sandy came out of the bedroom and went into the kitchen after Weaver before she started yelling at her again. This time Amber noticed that Sandy was doing all of the yelling, Weaver stayed perfectly silent. There was another slap and then the shattering of glass.

“Now look what you did…clean that up.” She heard Sandy snap, “I’m going out.” With that she stormed out of the kitchen and grabbed her jacket, both sets of keys, and Weaver’s purse. If Amber hadn’t been so used to Darien doing that to her she might have said something, but in her eyes their relationship seemed perfectly normal. Soon Kerry came out of the kitchen and joined Amber on the couch she had a drink in one of her shaky hands and she looked at Amber.

“Sorry you had to hear that…she gets mad sometimes.” Kerry took a long drink of whatever she was holding and sighed. “She’s not like that all the time.”

“Neither is Darien…he takes my keys too.” She whispered, Kerry then began to wonder if her relationship with Sandy was anything like Amber’s relationship with Darien. She shook her head a little and told herself that Sandy was not nearly as harsh as Darien, and that Sandy would never tie her to a bed and starve her for two days. She was convinced that Sandy just had an anger problem and sometimes she got physical that was nothing like Darien. What she didn’t consider though was the fact that Sandy had been getting increasingly worse over the past few weeks, but things had progressed so slowly that she barely even noticed it. She took another drink and watched Amber reach up to her neck and pull out a necklace which she started to play with. On the end of the gold chain there was and upside down pink triangle, and of course Weaver knew what that meant but it still confused the hell out of her, why would Amber be wearing a gay pride symbol.

“Are you a lesbian?” Weaver asked, the alcohol had caused her to loosen up a bit, Amber looked at her and then quickly put the necklace under her shirt again. She continued to stare down at the couch for a moment before she looked back up at Weaver.

“Darien said he could fix that.” She whispered, “I’m not a sinner if I’m with a man.”

“Oh come on Amber that’s bullshit.” Weaver replied, Amber certainly was one hell of a sexy woman, in fact she was everything that Weaver had ever wanted in a partner, male or female. She had settled for Sandy because she thought she was getting old and it would be pointless to go in search of some one else.

“I…before I came over tonight…” A tear rolled down her cheek and she brushed it away, “I was going to tell you something…but…seems like you are spoken for.” She wiped another tear away from her face and stood up slowly. Her body was still shaky and she was very underweight, Sandy had told Weaver to kick Amber out but there was no way she was going to do that. Amber definitely needed some help and Weaver wasn’t going to desert her. After processing what Amber had just told her she realized that Amber was or still is in love with her. She didn’t know what to say exactly, so she didn’t say anything, instead she finished off her drink and set it down on the coffee table.

“Are you hungry?”

“Can I eat?” Amber replied and Weaver sighed she wished that Amber hadn’t had to go through all the pain of living with a man who thought that he owned her. She looked over at Amber and nodded, but she didn’t want to have a repeat of what happened at the Christmas party.

“Do you like Chinese?”

“Oh yes…I love Chinese…” Amber licked her lips and got this ravenous look on her face, Weaver wondered how long it had been since Amber had eaten a decent meal. Weaver grabbed the phone and dialed the number, she ordered from the same place at least once a week. She knew that Sandy had taken her purse but she had already memorized her credit cards so it wouldn’t make much of a difference. She ordered the food, actually she just about ordered one of everything on the menu. Amber came and sat back down on the couch next to Weaver and put her hand just above Weaver’s knee. “Thank you.”

“No problem.” She smiled at Amber, the next few hours were going to be nice…they would talk and laugh, and really get to know each other but at the same time they were completely oblivious to the ticking time bomb that was known as Sandy Lopez.

Sandy didn’t come home until after midnight, Amber had fallen asleep on the couch with her head in Weaver’s lap. Weaver had propped her head up on her hand and fallen asleep with her other hand in Amber’s hair. Instead of being considerate to the fact that they were both asleep she flipped on the lights and made her way towards the couch.

“What the hell is this?” She screamed at Weaver who jumped slightly and then opened her eyes to look up at Sandy.

“Oh…uh…” She looked down at her hand in Amber’s hair and quickly removed it before looking back to Sandy, “We must have dozed off.” Amber was still fast asleep, she was used to hearing loud noises through out the night, especially when Darien got drunk and started throwing things around.

“What? Am I not good enough for you….so you had to get some from this whore?” Sandy responded, she grabbed Weaver’s arm and pulled her to her feet roughly, “DAMN IT KERRY! You could have at least gotten a motel!” When Weaver was pulled to her feet Amber’s head was disturbed and she was forced to sit up too. She groaned in annoyance before laying back down on the couch and pressing her face into a near by pillow.

“Nothing happened, we just fell asleep.”

“Fine…You want to just “SLEEP” with her? Then you can stay out here tonight.” Sandy back handed her and then for good measure she grabbed Weaver’s crutch and took it into the bedroom with her, then she locked the door. Seeing that Amber was still asleep Weaver sat back down on the couch and she started to cry silent tears…she didn’t know what she was supposed to do anymore…but she also felt like she could never leave Sandy in a million years, for some strange reason she loved the woman with all her heart. Weaver laid down on the couch next to Amber and wrapped her arms around the woman gently before kissing her cheek softly, she then laid her head on the same pillow as Amber’s and drifted off to sleep.
