The Secret Life Of Amber McKay

Part: 1

“Nice place you have here…very…oriental.” Dr. Weaver commented looking down into the small glass Amber had just set down on the table for her, she really couldn’t smell the liquid that was in there and she was hesitant to drink it.

“I was born and raised in Okinawa…Japan.” Amber said before sitting down across from Weaver, she had made them both sushi and had poured some of her most expensive Saki but she was getting the feeling that Weaver had no intention of drinking it. “That’s Saki, if you were wondering. It’s a Japanese rice wine.” She took a sip of hers, it was quite sweet and most people who were trying it for the first time got very drunk off of it so she was going to have to keep an eye on how much Weaver was drinking, if she decided to drink at all. Weaver was now busy inspecting the sushi, it looked like she had never tried any of that either and Amber sighed feeling so stupid for making such an exotic dinner for her boss. Although she really liked Kerry she didn’t have any plans of seduction in mind for the night she really just wanted to have her over to get to know her.

“I’ve never had sushi isn’t it raw fish?” Weaver said still looking quizzically at the food laid out before her. Amber smiled slightly and picked up her chopsticks and grabbed one of the spicy tuna rolls from her plate, she dipped it in soy sauce before popping it into her mouth.

“Actually yours is Sashimi, which means I cooked the fish before I made it most people aren’t gung ho about eating raw fish their first time out.” Amber replied her mouth still half full of food, Weaver certainly didn’t want to disappoint or offend Amber by not trying any of it but she also didn’t know how happy she was going to be about eating fish wrapped in seaweed and rice.

“What’s this?” She pointed at a rather tasty looking piece of meat that was wrapped around the outside of some rice. Amber looked over at it and swallowed her food before she took her napkin and dabbed at her mouth slowly.

“That’s grilled eel…”

“Eel?”

“Yeah…” Amber smiled Weaver nodded slightly and made a face as if to say that she would eat it if Amber ate it first. Amber shrugged and reached over and took some of the eel and ate it, then she wished she would have made enough for herself she loved eel. “I know people say this a lot but it really does taste like chicken.”

Weaver stared at her plate for a moment and then reached for her glass and took a small sip of the rice wine not expecting it to taste very good but she was pleasantly surprised and she gulped the rest down happily. Amber eyed the bottle of Saki that she was keeping on the table she really didn’t want to see her boss get drunk at dinner so she didn’t offer her any more, but that didn’t stop her from pouring it herself.

“That is very good.” Weaver said, Saki had a very high proof and so she was feeling a bit more relaxed about eating the sushi, or sashimi, or what ever it really was. She didn’t really have the first idea how to use chopsticks so he just picked one up and put it in her mouth hesitantly. Amber watched her and smiled as she took a sip of her drink. She watched Kerry chew it slowly as she tried to decide if she liked it or not, and then a smile spread across her face, this food was incredibly delicious. Her little dog Iwata trotted in looking around happily like she thought she was going to get some food. Iwata was a very little dog and Amber still had no idea what breed it was but she loved her dog all the same, she didn’t know what breed her cats were either but they were cats, no one ever knew what breed cats were. She picked up one of her tuna rolls and fed it to her dog, Iwata wasn’t like other dogs, she seemed to have an iron stomach and that was probably because she had been abandoned and Amber had rescued her from an alley. When she looked up she saw that Weaver was pouring a third glass of Saki, Amber bit her lip and tried to keep from snapping at her for it.

“That stuff is really strong, it may not taste like it or even feel like it right now but in 15 minutes you are going to be buzzed.” Amber informed Weaver, she hadn’t even finished her first glass of it but then again she drank it all the time and she knew her limit.

“Don’t worry about it I can hold my liquor.” Weaver replied finishing off her food, Amber forced a smile she certainly didn’t want to tell her superior how much she could drink. Weaver finished off her third glass and Amber started to clear the table so she could bring out dessert which was just a few simple pastries she had made the day before, fried dough filled with cream was good in any culture. “Wow did you make those too?”

“Yeah, no big deal…I can make them with my eyes closed.” She looked down at Iwata who was now begging for a pastry but that was something she wouldn’t be tasting if Amber had any say in it. Weaver’s face was getting flushed and she was getting a little, well she was laughing and that was something she never thought she’d hear from that woman. Amber took one of the pastries off of the plate she had set in the center of the table and bit into it slowly as she continued to watch Weaver. Kerry had too much to drink and she knew it, but like everything, when you are drunk enough is never enough and so she poured another glass of Saki. Amber reached over and put her hand over Weaver’s trying to get the bottle away from her which was apparently a huge mistake.

“Hey,” she said trying to get the bottle away from Amber, “I told you I can hold my liquor.”

“I think you might be drunk.” Amber said softly, Iwata barked excitedly trying to get Amber’s attention so she could have some of the food. Weaver looked down at the dog as if noticing it for the first time and leaned to pet it setting down the bottle before she could pour anymore. Amber took the chance to grab the bottle and take it into the kitchen. She was only in there for a few moments when she heard a loud noise, she turned around to see if everything was alright and Weaver had fallen out of her chair, the dog was licking her face and she was laughing her ass off. “Oh dear god…”

“You’re dog is nice, what’s her name?”

“Her name is Iwata…are you alright?” she walked out of the kitchen and got down by Weaver and then helped her up, once she got her to her feet she almost fell over again so Amber helped her over to the couch and the dog followed.

“What kind of name is that? Come here puppy…yes…come here.” She cooed probably forgetting that she had even asked that question. Amber took a deep breath she certainly couldn’t let Kerry drive home like this but she didn’t know how she was going to explain things in the morning. Iwata barked and jumped into Kerry’s lap and she started to pet her softly.

“Kerry you can’t drive home like this where are your keys?” Amber said looking around for Kerry’s purse or anything that might suggest they had her keys in it. Kerry reached into her pocket and pulled out her keys and dangled them in the air, then she started one of her laughing fits again. Amber had to admit that seeing her all ditzy and weird was exciting she was probably one of the few people who were ever going to get to see her act this way. Amber stepped forward and reached out to grab the keys from Kerry’s hand when the woman grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a passionate kiss. Amber didn’t know how to respond especially because she knew the woman was drunk. Her lust for Weaver got the better of her and she kissed back with equal passion, Iwata jumped off of Kerry’s lap and trotted off to probably drink out of the toilet. Weaver pulled Amber down to her on the couch and into her arms continuing to kiss her with a hunger that Amber had never seen before. “NO! We can’t do this!” Amber said after she pulled away.

“Oh come on, no one is going to know.” Her words were starting to slur together, McKay put a hand to her forehead and then to the bridge of her nose, it wasn’t going to be easy turning down some one she wanted so bad but she wasn’t going to take advantage of her.

“You need some sleep okay? I’ll take you to the guest room.” She saw her opportunity and took the keys from Weaver’s hand and slid them into her back pocket. Kerry didn’t even seem to notice the keys were gone she was way to busy staring at Amber’s chest. She reached behind her and grabbed a book off of the coffee table and threw it into Weaver’s lap. “Read this I’ll be right back.” She had just remembered that she hadn’t even made the bed in the guest room yet. As she walked off Weaver shrugged and opened the book and began to leaf through it.

“Okay everything is ready.” Amber said when she came back into the room, Weaver was holding the book and turning it in all different directions trying to read it. It was about that time when Amber remember the book she had been reading was in Japanese, she slapped her forehead and ran her hand over her face. “That book is in Japanese I’m sorry.”

“Why do you have a book in Japanese?” Weaver said as Amber helped her to her feet, she took the book and set it back down on the coffee table.

“Well like I told you I am fluent in Japanese, I usually get books printed in that language so no one ever asks to borrow them, come on time to get some sleep.” She started to slowly usher Weaver towards the guest room even though Kerry was starting to become fascinated with just about everything that was on the wall. Amber took a deep breath and finally pushed Kerry into the bed room it was a traditional western style bed room, her own room was oriental style with titami mats and she even slept on the floor. That was how she was raised and she didn’t feel comfortable on a real bed for some reason. She laid Kerry down on the bed and turned to leave the room when she grabbed Amber’s arm and pulled her onto the bed into another passionate kiss. Amber didn’t resist the kiss but she knew in the back of her head that it was not going to be a good idea to engage in sexual activity with a woman who was drunk. Amber finally pulled away from the kiss when Weaver’s hands started to roam over her body. She forced herself to get out of the bed and she really had to try not to jump on Kerry and start kissing her again.

“The bathroom is down the hall and to the right, if you need anything help yourself in the kitchen. Some of the food is Japanese so um don’t eat anything with a label that you can’t read.” Amber said standing in the doorway. Kerry was looking her up and down with a hungry look in her eyes she licked her lips slowly and ran her hand over the comforter as if she was inviting Amber to come over.

“Don’t leave…we could have a lot of fun.” She whispered and then smiled one hell of a sexy smile before rolling onto her back and reaching down to take off her shoes. Amber dug her nails into the wooden doorframe trying so hard not to fall victim to this woman’s incredible beauty.

“We COULD have a lot of fun, if you weren’t drunk. I’m not going to take advantage of you.” She still didn’t make any attempt to move from her stance, even when Kerry started to unbutton her shirt. She couldn’t take her eyes off of Weaver’s wonderfully toned body but finally she blinked and left the room shutting the door behind her. “God I need a cold shower.”

The next morning Amber was woken by the sounds of heaving in the bathroom, she rolled over and picked up the alarm clock that she kept on the floor next to her bed and looked at it for a moment until it wasn’t blurry anymore. It was about 5:00am only 2 hours before she had to leave for work and she cursed Weaver for waking her up an hour early. She got out of bed and rolled it up and put it away, she liked that style of sleeping because it also provided more space in her room during the day so she could do her stretches. She pulled on her robe and then put on her slippers before heading out of her room towards the bathroom. When she got there Weaver was leaning over the sink splashing cold water on her face, her shirt was on but it wasn’t at all buttoned which caused Amber’s eyes to stray to her chest.

“Are you okay?” She said trying to suppress a yawn as she placed a hand on Kerry’s shoulder. She sort of glared at Amber before grabbing a towel and drying her face off, then she pushed past her and headed back towards the guest room. Amber rolled her eyes, how could Kerry possibly be upset with her? It wasn’t her fault that the woman didn’t know when to stop drinking.

“What happened last night? Why am I still here?” She looked into Amber’s bed room and realized there wasn’t a bed in there so she automatically concluded that they had slept together. “Did you…did we…”

“No we didn’t, I slept in my room.” Amber said pointing in that general direction, Kerry shakily walked over to Amber’s room and looked in.

“Where is your bed? And what is with the floor mats?”

“I use a Japanese style futon it rolls out onto the floor at night and when I wake up I put it away, so that saves a lot of space.” Amber said going over to the desk that was in her room and pulling the drawer open. She took out a bottle of aspirin and tossed it in Weaver’s direction. “I assume you want some of this.”

Weaver caught the bottle and opened it she wasn’t sure if she believed Amber but she didn’t really have any evidence against her otherwise. She took out two pills and closed the bottle tossing it back to Amber. McKay put it back in the drawer and headed out of the room towards the kitchen to get Weaver a glass of water. Her coffee maker was on a timer and it didn’t start making coffee until about 5:30, she didn’t want to wait that long for caffeine so she pushed the start button. She filled a glass with water and handed it to Weaver who quickly swallowed the pills.

“What did I drink last night?”

“Saki, it’s a Japanese rice wine and it’s very easy to get drunk off of because it doesn’t taste like wine. The first time I ever had any I was hung over for three days so consider yourself lucky.” Amber said as she stared at the coffee pot waiting for it to fill so she could have a cup. Weaver just nodded and slowly made her way to the couch and sat down, she then realized that her shirt was unbuttoned and quickly started to fix that.

“I think I better get going.” She got up and walked over to the chair she had dinner in last night and picked up her coat and put it on. She reached into her pockets slowly and soon found that her keys weren’t in there so she looked over to Amber in frustration, she wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. She only remembered bits and pieces of what had happened the night before but she wasn’t going to admit anything to Dr. McKay she just wanted to pretend like it had never happened.

“Oh, I have your keys.” She tightened her robe and headed into her bedroom, Weaver followed behind her. Amber picked them up off of her desk where she had left them the night before and turned to hand them to Kerry. Weaver snatched them away like she couldn’t get out of the apartment fast enough and turned to leave. Amber followed her to the door hoping she would be able to resolve this so Kerry wouldn’t feel quite so embarrassed about herself. “I took them cause I didn’t want you to try to drive home.”

“Well thank you but I’m fine now…maybe a little hung over I think I can drive.” She said forcing a smile, “Please don’t tell anyone about this.”

“No I won’t.” Amber said looking her over, now that Kerry was sober she wanted to try and kiss her but she didn’t know how the other woman would react to that. She didn’t think a chance would ever present itself like this again so she decided that it was now or never. She stepped forward and put her hand on the back of Weaver’s neck and pulled her into a kiss. She was hoping for a warm response but it felt more like kissing an ice cube. Kerry quickly shoved her away and slapped her across the face as hard as she could. Even though she couldn’t exactly deny the feelings she had for Dr. McKay she didn’t feel like she wanted to confirm them either. “Yeah that’s what I thought.”

“Don’t be late to work.” Kerry snapped before leaving and slamming the door behind her. Iwata started to bark at the loud noise that the door had made but this time Amber ignored it. She put her hand to her face and couldn’t stop the tears from escaping as she headed into the bathroom to take a nice hot shower.

About an hour later she entered the lounge for her shift feeling horrible, there was a small bruise forming on her cheek Weaver had hit her pretty hard. She saw Dixie in there talking to Romano and he looked like he was laid back but when he saw she had entered he started yelling at her about protocol or something like that, she shut him out and went over to her locker to put her coat away. Finally Romano left while he was still lecturing almost like he was expecting Amber to follow him while he yelled at her, she shut the door to her locker and turned around to look at Dixie.

“Hey are you okay?” Dixie said noticing the reddish area on McKay’s cheek, Amber put a hand to her face as if to cover it.

“Yeah I’m fine, I got up last night to use the bathroom in my new apartment and I ran into a door, I’m a walking accident I’m used to…” She paused as she noticed the door opening and Weaver stepped into the room. She quickly closed her mouth and smiled at Dixie before heading towards the door to avoid any more awkward moments. Weaver grabbed her arm and with surprising strength, she stopped Amber and pulled her back into the room.

“Do you think we could have a minute?” Weaver said in the direction of Dixie. She looked at the both of them utterly confused as to what was going on there but she decided that she should probably go check on Romano before he decided to fire anyone. “What the hell did you think you were doing Dr. McKay?”

“Well last night you kissed me a few times but you were drunk and I thought that maybe since now you were sober…” She trailed off when she saw Weaver’s hand clench into a fist she certainly didn’t want to be hit by this woman if her slapping left a bruise.

“Yes I was DRUNK when I kissed you it was a mistake…when you are DRUNK your judgment is impaired…what’s your excuse for trying something like that on me this morning?” Kerry replied through clenched teeth trying to keep her voice low. Amber didn’t really have an excuse except for the fact that she Really liked the woman, and she had also assumed that Kerry was a lesbian, that was probably the mistake she had made.

“I’m sorry I guess…well I guessed wrong it won’t happen again Dr. Weaver.” Amber said looking away from the doctor feeling like she was a little kid who was getting yelled at. Kerry took a deep breath and stepped away from McKay muttering something under her breath that didn’t sound too nice. McKay took one more look at her and then walked onto the floor wishing that she could just take back everything that had happened.

A few hours later she found herself back in the lounge, it was the start of her first break of the day and she was already beat. She had already gotten thrown up on twice and one of the older patients threw a used bedpan at her. Needless to say she had already gotten changed three different times and she really didn’t have anything else to wear after this. Since no one was in the lounge she decided that she was going to do some stretches because they always helped to relieve her tension.

Dr. Weaver was headed for the lounge about five minutes later looking forward to sitting down and drinking a cup of coffee. She reached the door to the lounge but before she went in she decided to look through the window and see if Amber was in there. She was in there but she was doing yoga and for some reason Kerry couldn’t take her eyes off of McKay. She looked so beautiful and relaxed, she was so flexible and graceful, she took a deep breath trying to decide weather she wanted to go in and interrupt this or stand back and watch. Amber went from a standing position into the splits and grabbed the foot that was in front of her with both hands and pressed her forehead to her knee. Dr. Weaver drew in a sharp breath and she felt a sudden heat between her legs, she groaned in arousal and in annoyance, this wasn’t supposed to be happening to her. She had sworn of relationships about a year ago she didn’t want to get involved with such a difficult woman but an extremely wonderful woman at that. She finally pushed the door open and stepped into the lounge, Amber’s back was to her and she was slowly lifting her leg to touch it to her head.

“I’ll be done in a minute Carter I know you wanted to talk to me.” She thought it was Carter because he had been bothering her about something before her break, she was guessing he wanted to ask her out on a date and although she had no interest in men what so ever she didn’t think that going on a date would really hurt anything, it would make her feel less lonely.

“It’s not Carter.” Kerry snapped suddenly feeling angry at Amber instead of aroused like she was before. “What are you doing?”

“Yoga…but I’ll stop.” She bent down and touched her toes and then bent backward slightly, “There finished.” Weaver decided to ignore her again and walked over to refill her cup of coffee. Amber watched her for a moment, she was very frustrated with the way Kerry had been treating her it just wasn’t fair.

“Were you expecting Carter?” She said sitting down at the table and setting down some papers she had brought in with her.

“Yes, we’re going out tonight.” Amber replied casually as she sat back down on the couch to read the newspaper. When Kerry heard that she almost choked on her coffee but she composed herself and tried not to make such a big deal out of it. “Isn’t he cute?” She really just wanted to rub this in her face it was definitely more fun that way considering the way Weaver had been treating her.

“Yeah…although I don’t think cute actually describes him.” She muttered into her coffee as she started to write something on one of the papers in front of her. No sooner then she had uttered those words did Carter walk into the lounge looking for Amber. She didn’t plan on what she did next but the whole point of this was to get revenge on Weaver. She ran over to him and pulled him into a passionate kiss, Weaver had to keep herself from spitting her coffee out. Carter seemed rather surprised at first but then joined in the kiss, all Amber had to do to stomach this was pretend like she was kissing a woman.

“Wow, and hello to you too.” He said pulling away she certainly was a very attractive woman any man would have been turned on by a kiss like that from her. Weaver looked angry well more jealous then angry but she didn’t say a word she just went back to her work.

“I can’t wait for tonight.” She whispered in Carter’s ear loud enough to Weaver to catch it, she kissed him on the cheek and stepped out of the room. Carter just sort of stood there for a moment with a stupid grin on his face forgetting that he came in there to get more coffee.

Amber caught up with Dixie in one of the exam rooms, she wanted to ask her advice on how to handle Weaver. “Hey Dix, can I ask you a question?”

“Shoot.”

“What do you think about Dr. Weaver?” She asked as they headed out of the exam room, Dixie didn’t know if the question meant for her to answer honestly or to tone it down a bit she had no idea why Amber would be asking that question in the first place. “I asked Romano and…well…I’m pretty sure everyone knows what he thinks.”

“Okay well, she’s…” Dixie paused trying to find a way to phrase her answer nicely it’s not that she hated Dr. Weaver but the woman could definitely be difficult at times, “She’s very guarded and stubborn but I’m sure under all of that she’s great. I mean look at Robert,” She turned her head when she heard him yelling at one of the med students over by the front desk, “He’s nothing like that when you get to know him.”

“No offense but I don’t want to get to know him…so if I was to take Kerry out to dinner or something would she prefer high class or like a steak house?” McKay asked as she picked up a few pieces of paper from the front desk with messages on them for her. She started to read through them carefully almost as if she was looking for something that would decided the path of the rest of her life. Dixie suddenly realized that McKay wanted to know about pursuing and dating Kerry Weaver not just getting along with her better.

“Honestly I think she would bitch about the food no matter where you took her.” She said with a small smile, Amber had stopped on a piece of paper and she was just staring at it like she was trying to make sure it was real. “Are you okay?”

“Fine…just fine.” She stormed off towards the lounge removing her white jacket as she did so Dixie hoped that it wasn’t anything that she had just said. She started to follow Amber who was moving fast only a tiny bit slower then actually running. She got into the lounge to her locker and flung it open, she shoved her stuff in there and took out her jacket. “I’m going home and if Weaver gets mad tell her to go fuck herself.”

“Excuse me?” It was Kerry’s voice that she heard next and so she started to bang her head on the door of her locker hoping that she might eventually do it hard enough to pass out. Dixie stopped her trying to calm her down although she didn’t have the first clue to why Amber might be this upset. “What’s going on here?”

“You heard me, go fuck yourself.” She slammed the door to her locker shut and then headed out of the room as she pulled her scarf around her neck. Weaver reached over and grabbed the hood of her jacket causing her to stop in her tracks. “Let go of me!”

“You can’t leave you still have at least three hours left in your shift!” Kerry shouted, Amber’s lower lip trembled with the news she had just received she didn’t know if she could handle working for three more hours, she just wanted to go home and lay in bed with her dog. She started to cry and amazingly Weaver’s stone cold glare began to soften wondering what was wrong, she got closer to Amber and put an arm around her.

“I can’t stay here.” She took a piece of paper from her pocket and held it out in the direction of Kerry before she started to walk towards the door again. Weaver read over it quickly and then she read it again and looked up at Dixie.

“You’re pregnant?” Weaver asked, Dixie looked just as surprised at she did especially considering the fact that she was almost positive that Amber was a lesbian. Amber stopped at the door putting her hand on the wall next to it. She rested her forehead against the cool glass of the window that was in the door and took a deep breath, as she let it out she watched a small cloud form in front of her.

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“It’s not to late to get an abortion if you…” Kerry started to explain getting the feeling that Amber seriously didn’t want to have a baby. Amber shook her head and turned to look at both Kerry and Dixie, tears were running down her face.

“You don’t understand…and you never will.” She pulled her hood on and walked out into the hallway. Dixie and Weaver looked at each other for a moment before deciding to go after her before she could get to her car. “Leave me alone I can’t tell you anything about this except for the fact that I have NO choice in the matter.” She shakily unlocked her car door and got in, she put the keys in the ignition and tried to start it but it was stalling again. Kerry took the moment to send Dixie back inside as she got into the car with McKay and shut the door. It was freezing outside and the car was only a bit warmer considering there wasn’t a wind chill factor. After trying to start the car three different times McKay slammed her hand against the steering wheel before dropping her head into a pitiful sob.

“It’s going to be okay Amber, I’ll figure out a way to get you some help.” Kerry said putting her hand on Amber’s shoulder, the distraught woman looked up and wiped her face with her gloved hands before speaking.

“No you can’t, I was looking for a companion, I thought it would be you I was wrong so please get out of my car.” She said as she desperately tried to start the car again. Kerry looked at Amber for a moment she certainly felt a connection to her fellow coworker a connection that was much more then just a friendship. It had only been a few days but love didn’t measure it’s self in days or weeks, something were just instinct. She leaned in and kissed Amber softly on the lips not wanting to startle her too much, McKay was surprised but not so surprised that she couldn’t kiss back. They met in a warm embrace and stayed that way for a moment before Amber tried to start her car one more time…it roared to life almost instantly.

“My place?” Amber whispered looking at Weaver, she smiled and nodded a little pulling her seat belt on, she knew that everything would be okay in the ER even though she would soon be getting bitched out by Romano. Amber turned the heat up to full blast and backed out of the parking lot, finally for once things were beginning to look up…or so it seemed.
