1941 Cadillac 2-door convertible
This is a 1941 Cadillac that was purchased by my parents in 1975 in poor
condition and was fully restored in 1976-77. It's only driven about 600
miles a year.
When my family bought it, it was navy blue with a vinyl navy blue interior.
But the body tag on the car shows that is was originally black from the
factory with red leather interior. As for the mileage on the car, I have no
idea how many times the odometer has turned over. The odometer was reset to
0 when it was restored in 1977 and now reads just over 15,000 miles (not many
miles for 26 years !!).
The restoration took 18 months and according to the summarizing bill from the
restoration shop, 44 people were involved in restoring the car. A total of
2,219 hours were billed; this doesn't include parts farmed out for chrome
plating, engine rebuild, clock repair, etc.
Features:
- 598th car of 3,100 built
- 346 cubic inch flathead V-8 engine with 7.25:1 compression and 150
horsepower/ 283 ft. lbs. of torque
- On-the-column 3 speed manual shifter
- Tan leather interior
- 6 volt positive ground electrical system
- A working clock & AM radio
- Fog lights
- Driver's side spotlight
- A backup light
- Vacuum operated windshield wipers, antenna and top mechanisms
- Complete stainless steel exhaust system
- Under-seat heaters
- 'NoRol' option to prevent the car from rolling back when letting the
clutch out on an incline.
- Traffic light viewer on the dashboard. It's a prism that lets you view
a traffic light at an intersection when it's out of direct view from the
driver' seat (Note: It was installed after the pictures below were taken).
When new in 1941, this car cost $1645.00 (unbelievable!!).
