MINNESOTA TIMBERWORTS

The July 2001 Rochester Homebrew Club Newsletter

Next Meeting

July 14 at Greg Renkly’s.

Directions:

Greg lives at 3004 4th Ave NW. The best way I know to get there is to take West River Parkway down behind HyVee North until you get to Zumbro Drive T-exit. Turn right. Go to 4th Ave and turn right. It’s a long double block. Greg’s house is about half way up on the right side. You could also take Elton Hills Drive to 4th Ave and turn north. The blocks are irregular, so just keep going until you get to the 30th block. Greg’s phone number is 507-280-6037.

From Greg:  As far as time goes any time after 5pm will be ok. I am still pondering what to do for food but I am thinking about doing some Greek kabobs on the grill and some corn on the cob but I am open for suggestions. There is however one MAJOR alert and that is that the street in front of my house is under major construction and access to my house is not always available. They usually give us access each night and on the weekends. If you can't drive up to the house you can park on 31st street which is less than a block away, and walk. Also we are getting a new driveway at the same time. So it will be an adventure on the 14th but hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can be outside.  Any questions or comments feel free to contact me.

Statewide interclub campout

Wazionja Campgrounds

6450 120th St NW

Pine Island, MN 55963

507-356-8594

The campground is located on Wazionja Road  - it is the first road on the

left going north out of Oronoco on HWY 52, about a mile north of the Conoco

station.  The campground is on the left about a 1/2 mile down Wazionja road.  There are signs (MnDot)  for the campground on 52.

If you are planning to bring a large camper or RV, you will need to contact the campground and request a location near the ‘interclub campout’ site(if that is your desire).

Leo Vitt will be distributing ‘brewing kits’ to several clubs that are planning to attend the campout.  The idea is to have a tasting competition at the campout.  If your club is planning to attend and desires a kit, please contact Leo Vitt(lvitt4@yahoo.com).  Any questions?  Leo is also your answer man!!

The Great Taste of the Midwest

From Mark Ingham:

 Just something for the newsletter.

My wife, Julie, and I, gave birth to our second child, Alexander Frank Ingham, on Friday, June 22nd, @ 2:23 PM. He was 7 lb. 12.8 oz. and was 20 1/2" long and came home Sunday.

Mom and baby are doing fine.

From Wayne Theuer:

Hi All,

I forgot to tell you, the last time I was in La Crosse, I was going to visit the Black Rose but it has closed for good. Went to Doc Powell's, good Pale Ale & Stout. Some of the best food I've had in a long time.

From David Berg:

Hey all-

Saw that you had a tentative date for a tour at Mantorville (also Ken's B-day).  In case you weren't aware, Sep 8 is the Great North Fest Minnesota Craft Brewer's Festival at Peavy Plaza (downtown Minneapolis).

The festival is being organized by the Minnesota Craft Brewer's Guild and the Minneapolis Downtown Council.  We are expecting 50 breweries to attend.  Tickets will go on sale mid-July.

Cheers,

From Ken Vossen:

It certainly looks like a few conflicts (ie other beer sampling opportunities) have appeared on Sept 8th this year.  I cannot move the club meeting to any other weekend.  So………..   If someone else wants to take that month for the meeting, please speak up!
