Mark and Karen's trip to New Zealand, 2004
Moving South several hundered miles, the gorgeous city of Christchurch
We were told to expect the prim and proper.
We weren't expecting it to be San Francisco like.
This makes us feel at home - just like our back yard :)
On the doorstep, a working harbour. Inexpensive place to live, and no Yuppies. This is the crater of a Volcano called Lyttelton.
Another possible location to live, slightly more problems with Yuppies, probably fewer problems with Fishermen.
And finally to prove that they will show a movie to a theatre with only two people - and if you haven't seen "The Last Samurai" then we reccomend it.
This was a Dolby Digital Theatre. I still find it amazing that I can travel to a far flung land and trip over stuff I have dabbled with. The only discernable problem with this theatre is that the projector needs some bracing - the picture wobbled a bit (once) when the projectionist moved a little heavily during the performance.
This is a family owned and operated quad or triple screen. The projectionist waved as we left the auditorium !
More so than Auckland, Christchurch has some stark contrasts. We haven't even been to the Alps yet and we have only passed through some of the farmland and undeveloped areas.
This is truely a lovely part of the world.
