Day Five

...and it's the first weekend to myself to relax for quite a while since we embarked on our adventure of moving to Christchurch,
New Zealand from San Francisco, California.

A change of scenery was called for this morning. This is a brief glimpse of a Saturday morning trip to Lyttelton Harbour and a couple of sights along the way. Starting off from St. Martins (home of the gorgeous house we are renting), and heading South East, the road winds through Sumnor and past Moncks Bay through to Redcliffs. The road then climbs through Evans Pass over the mountain side into the bowl of the volcano which forms the Harbour.

Yet another day in hell. This is looking across Moncks Bay to New Brighton, with a low tide.

Climbing down the hill from Evans Pass and looking slightly North of East.

I spent 20 mins chatting to a guy at one of the lookout points who had a shipment of carpets in one of the containers on this ship from Italy. The boat was marked MSC which apparently stood for the Mediterranean Shipping Company.

Same vantage point as above but looking to the right. Diamond Harbour straight on, Lyttelton is further around the corner to the right.

The Time Ball Station, heading into town.

Of course I haven't heard any sheep jokes during this adventure. This one was outside a pub in place of the menu which would be normal in the UK. I can see why I like this place, the locals have their priorities right.

I do occasionally question the Marketing skills of this country, but hey, it's fun.

I always thought that the "Pig and Bucket" was an odd name for a pub in the UK.

Finally, one of those Engineering gems, a throne with built in steps. What more could you possibly want apart from a stepladder to reach the toilet paper.

Karen will be coming over from the USA in a couple of weeks, the dog and container-of-house will arrive mid May-ish.
