Weekend Two

So far, so good. Work is turning out just fine, as are the staff.

On Friday morning, the CEO managed to reduce half of the staff to a state of crying hysteria with a yarn about a one of his motorcycle accidents when he was a kid. Haven't seen that sort of thing for a long, long time, and sure have missed it.

I am starting to like this place...

Friday Evening.

Pootling off to Sumner, for an evening with the kind folks we stayed with in January, I spotted this wee sunset. At night, the seabirds clearly outnumber the human inhabitants of this beach.

Saturday Morning meander.

We were told to expect the occasional couple on a punt traversing the local rivers. At the time I thought we were having our legs pulled. A flat bottomed craft could probably navigate this river just OK. While I still have dreams of building a hovercraft, it would be rather mean to disturb the tranquility with such a noisy craft.

Anyone got a book on Punt Building I can borrow ?

Not very much to look at - just a park. The thing which I love about this is that this is within walking distance. Nothing too fancy, just clean, well kept, safe and quiet. I think we have several others quite close by.

Sunday Morning.

This really was the last thing that I was expecting to see in Christchurch shop window. It looks like a skateboard with attitude. Two things scare me about this contraption:

1) A kid heading down the road at speed on one of these things with his feet tucked under the handles.

2) A kid heading down the road at speed on one of these things with his hands attached to the handles and the wheels attached to the ground. The legs of the kid are of course in the air.

What is the name of this sport anyway ?

How about "Powered Road Rash"

Have you ever wondered what happened to those
"Big Six Wheeler, Scarlet Painted, London Transport, Diesel Engined, 97 Horse Power Omnibus"

Ken, Robin and Godfrey excused, who else knows this little ditty...

Here is one I found lying around at Ferrymead Historic Park. It's not part of a display yet, I was told I could probably take it away for the cost of one of the Tyres. An appealing idea for those shopping trips, but parking, insurance and the Heavy Goods Vehicle License are a bit of a problem.

I wonder how much this cost to ship from the UK ? Parcel Post would have cost a packet.

Is it true that they are being phased out in London ?
