A continuing obsession with volcanos

Another Saturday morning trip.

This is an aerial photo downloaded from the LINZ web site (Land Information, NZ). Quail island is in the centre of the crater. Lyttelton is the main sea port for the South Island, Diamond Harbour is a 20 minute ferry ride away.

One of the things that we were cautioned about when we discussed the idea of living somewhere in this area was the lack of light during winter when the low sun angle is cut off by the top of the surrounding hills. I would never have thought of that...

Slightly West of Lyttelton, one of the many clusters of Sail Boats. Notice the Rugby posts and the football pitch. It's quite fun explaining to the tourists that the Kiwi's pile up mattresses on one side of the posts then practice pole vaulting over them...

One of several parks and walks in the area. My initial reaction was that this contains an interesting mix of English and Californian plants, but that is really missing the point. This is all pure Kiwi.

Looking West.

Communications central.

Post office and Phone box. Nothing fancy just clean smple and functional.

Continuing proof that the Kiwis have their priorities set correctly.

The Estate Agent.

A continuing theme of primary colours seems to impart an almost "toy town" quality to this place, which I find totally delightful.

Week Three, and things are starting to settle down.

Karen arrives tomorrow morning, yahoo...

Navigation is becoming easier. The trips to and from work are almost on autopilot.

The mechanical Engineer in the office needs tuning. Anyone give singing lessons ?
