Four Types of Sentences

(Ch. 13)

Declarative: ______________________________________________

Interrogative: _____________________________________________

Imperative: _______________________________________________

Exclamatory: ______________________________________________

To help differentiate between types of sentences, choose a topic on which to write a declarative sentence (test). Use the declarative sentence as a departing point to form the other three types of sentences.

For example, "The test was difficult" could become "Was the test difficult?" (interrogative); "Please tell me if the test was difficult." (imperative); "That test was really easy!" (exclamatory).
