CONNOLLY CHRONICLES (TRAVEL SECTION!)

 Disabled Travel

Disabled travel can be stressful. It can help a lot to use a travel company that specialises in providing services for disabled people. One of the best I've come across is Travelability based in the UK. Here is a link to their site.

Here is another link to a general range of travel information that I have built up while researching the topic. If any of the links arn't working please let me know.

Accessible Ireland

For a list of accessible locations, Hotels, Shopping Centres, Restaurants (etc.) try visiting the Accessible Ireland site which is a sub-site of the world-wide travel guide assessibleeverything.com

Wheelchair Adapted House Swap, Portmarnock, Co.Dublin, Ireland.

Portmarnock is a seaside town with a beautiful beach and coastal walks(or pushes!) in North County Dublin, just 45mins from the city centre.

The house is a modern detatched 5 bedroom structure with an attached adapted 'apartment' including a 'Tempur 2000' double bed with pressure relieving matress. The apartment includes an office area and bathroom with wheel-in shower.

The entire ground floor area plus front and back gardens are fully accessible with wooden floors and external ramps, consisting of sitting room, reception room, playroom, kitchen/dining area and conservatory. Upstairs area consists of 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms. A stair lift is installed if access to the upper floor area is required.

House Swaps

Wheelchair adapted house swaps can be an excellent way of ensuring that you will really have the facilities you need when travelling abroad. You've probably all suffered as a result of receiving assurances that a particular location is accessible when in fact it turns out to be nothing of the sort. Here are some links to general and adapted house swap sites. In providing these I am not making any assertions about the quality of the individual companies/sites.
