Car Rental
Car rental is an necessity if you are planning your own golfing holiday.
The public transportation is Ireland is unreliable and expensive. Unfortunately;
however, renting a car can be difficult in the summer.
Many of the major American companies are in Ireland (Hertz, Budget,
Alamo etc.) so the same standards and practices of renting exist here.
However it can be an expensive way to travel if not done correctly.
Booking a car in your home country will usually work out much cheaper than
doing it when you arrive. That being said, it will still cost a bit more
than in the US. Your best bet is to call several companies in America and
shop around for a good price.
Unlike playing golf and finding accomodation, renting a car can be quite
expensive by just showing up at the airport. As I said before, it is easy
to get a round in and find a place to stay at a moment's notice, but booking
a car will get costly if done on a whim.
Petrol prices are consistent with the rest of Europe i.e. expensive.
Expect to pay about 70p (80 cents) a litre.
Having your own car gives you the freedom to enjoy the countryside and
get to the places where most tourists cannot. And more importantly, you
have the freedom to go to whatever courses you want. Basically, book
ahead and there should be no problems.
