Fantasy Island

These photos were taken along Fantasy Island, a local Tucson mountain biking trail, using Gigabitfilm in my Minox B.  They were shot several days after the World Trade Tower disaster which explains the American Flag found on one of the trail markers.  This was my first usage of Gigabitfilm which I developed to have a predicted gamma value of .56 in order to  match Kodak's published gamma for Tri-X developed in D76 (my defacto standard), but gamma is only one parameter describing a film's characteristic curve and is probably less important than the shape of the "toe" region in defining a film's character so I ended up with much less apparent contrast than I had expected.  In the future I plan on experimenting to bring up the contrast a bit (Gigabitfilm comes with a slick little slide rule computer which makes the calculations very easy).  Grain is somewhat finer than Technical Pan film (TP) developed in TD-3, though that is not going to be the compelling reason to switch emulsions, but the control over contrast may well make this a more versatile film than TP.  Tonal rendition from Gigabitfilm is very natural, which coupled with the lower contrast may make it a better choice for portraiture under certain situations.
