Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
About arriving procedures at Schiphol

1. How and where do I enter the Dutch airspace, intending to land at EHAM?

Please refer to enroute charts on how to enter the Dutch airspace via airways. Usually STAR (Standard Instrument Arrival) procedures connect to these airways. Use the following table as a help to determine the correct STAR for your flight.

Remark: by mistake the FSS team did not include the chart for the HELEN, DENUT and PESER arrivals. I decided to scan my own Jeppesen chart to make these STARs available for everyone. Please do not tell further! <g>

2. What runways are category II and III equipped?

In case CAT II procedures are active, landing is restricted to runways 01L, 01R, 06, 19R and 27.
In case CAT III procedures are active, landing is restrived to runways 06, 19R and 27.

3. Important: what is the first thing I have to do after landing?

Vacate the runway as soon as possible at the first available exit and contact Schiphol Ground on 121.7 or 121.8 (depending on the landing runway). Important: Schiphol Tower will NOT give a handover! In case there are 2 ground frequenties active:

Contact EHAM_W_GND on 121.700 when vacating runway 06 or 19R.
Contact EHAM_E_GND on 121.800 when vacating runway 01R or 27.

4. I don't understand the taxi instruction. How can I find my way?

Don't hesitate to ask Schiphol Ground for assistance. Generally speaking just study your taxi maps and keep in mind that the OUTER TRACK is used for traffic taxiing anti-clockwise and the INNER TRACK for traffic taxiing clockwise. During the taxi, you may be asked to monitor the other Ground frequency. In this case, switch Roger Wilco to the other Ground frequency. If you are using text only (poor you...), report the other frequency that you are on this channel. If you don't, the other GND controller assumes that you are on voice.

5. Oh-oh, my gate is still occupied. What can I expect ATC to do?

Several parts of the airport function as some kind of remote holding area. The Papa-apron is an apron specially meant for holding. Normally you won't have to use this thing since we are only in a simulation and there would normally always be a gate available for you.

6. Can I shutdown my engines without prior approval?

Yes, you can. It is NOT necessary to ask permission to shutdown the engines, however, it would be nice if you let us know that you are leaving the frequency.
