Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
VFR Procedures at Schiphol Airport

1. I want to make VFR flight from or to Schiphol. What do I need to know?

The apron of Schiphol-East including the small runway 04/22 is normally used for all kinds VFR traffic. Make sure you start your flight at Schiphol East.

Secondly, keep in mind there is only one way to enter or leave the area of Schiphol Airport, which is via point Victor near the Vinkeveense Plassen. Below there is a small map of a VFR map of the area of Schiphol airport. Notice point Victor (Vinkeveen) surrounded by a red rectangle.

You may ONLY enter the Schiphol CTR via the so-called Victor Arrival. This procedure starts at point Victor and leads on a heading of 310 degrees via point Alpha to point Bravo. Point Bravo is marked by an orange-coloured VHF communication station. Have a look at the following charts:

The procedures are:

ARRIVING FLIGHTS (Victor arrival): should contact Schiphol Tower (EHAM_A_TWR) at least 10 minutes prior to entering the CTR for entry clearance. Arriving flights shall, when cleared, proceed via points Alpha and Bravo. Note that the VHF station at point Bravo might not be in your scenery. Point Bravo is a compulsory reporting point (it has a filled triangle on the map). Aircraft will be cleared for either a THRESHOLD BASELEG approach or a MIDRUNWAY BASELEG approach. If you look at the map shown above, the inner two lines indicate the track for a Midrunway baseleg approach, the outer two lines indicate the track for the Threshold baseleg approach. Note that you may NEVER leave the VFR-area and that there might be IFR traffic landing on runway 27.

DEPARTING FLIGHTS (Victor departure): a request for startup shall be made at Schiphol Delivery (EHAM_DEL). After take off, join the VFR sector within MAX 4NM from the aerodrome (point Alpha) and report clear of the CTR over Victor. Do not exceed 1000ft.

2. I want to cross the Schiphol CTR. What shall I do?

You shall contact Schiphol Tower at least 10 minutes before expecting to enter the CTR. Depending on the actual situation, he will give you clearance to enter the CTR (or not). You may be handed over to Schiphol Approach (EHAM_W_APP; EHAM_E_APP) or Schiphol Arrival (EHAM_A_APP; EHAM_S_APP) for radar vectoring.
