Oi! For Finland? Some good news from Turku scene. Our streetpunk/oi! band Fist Season's first ep "30 years of skinheads" will be released on French Cranes Blases Records. We will also be on their compilation lp. Check them out. And our old school hardcore band Back against the wall is going to release an ep Those fanfares of victory on French Urban noizes records. Carl from New York played some solos for us as he's now living (studying) in Turku for about a year. Bitter Bois from Helsinki were also in the studio and their debut (produced by the same Mr. Fritscher) is going ti be released on some German label.
Gigs : Riddim garden '99 (A ska and
Reggae festival with mainly Finnish bands) in August was an essential place
to visit, though I can't remember too much (I saw Finnish Housewifes Choice
& The Blaster Master and the US college boys from Sweden, I think)
and al 2 photos which came out all right represented my girlfriends face.
So I guess we've had a party...
Swedish Cigarres and Spitfire from
Russia had their min tours here in Finland too, but I luckily missed both
their experiences. I've only took part in some odd hardcore concerts but
really, nothing special happened. Although there's always a possibiltity
that I've been a bit lazy and become too sophisticeted. Or then everything
is just shit.
Records : Some good stuff I've came
across recently: Intensified's new album Faceman sound (on Grover) is even
better thean their debut one, so some cool traditional ska and reggae here;
Trojan's newish Rocksteady compilation Socking Good Time is also worth
having; Inner cirlce & the fatman Riddim section's Heavyweight dub/killer
bub (blood and fire) = 2 really good late 70's dub albums on 1 cd; Agnostic
Front's Riot Riot upstart on Epitaph, NYHC legends new album; Blood for
Blood's livin' in Exile (victory) is good "white trash hardcore rock 'n'
roll mini cd/12", you all should get it; Sppedwheel is a new Finnish band
and their debut 7"ep Blood, sweat and no tears is a good punkrock in the
vein of Social Distortion; building a legacy- A Helsinki Hardcore document.
well, the title tells what's the case here; Stubborn all stars NYC ska
sensation is a compilation of their first two albums = cool; Housewifes
choice's debut 7" ep on Stupido twins is alright, though it has a bit weak
sound; Pitboss 2000:everyone's a winner - cd on Use your head records,
good old school hardcore a la SOD..; Check out the brand new Hepcat album
(on hellcat as its out and of course the rhythm Doctors full length (on
Oub City Royal); Hellcat's Give em the boot 2 has some cool songs too (hepcat,
slackers etc) and its cheap.
