Day Old Brutus.

This is an interview with the Midwest Ska band Day Old Brutus' Vocalist James.

1. who plays what in the band and what do you guys do outside the band ie: job wise?

Jamie:plays drums, Ben:Guitar, Dave: Bass, Chad:trombone, (me) James:growls burps fart sounds

2. Do you guys go out to spread a message or do you just play 100% for fun?

Well we are all about fun, message is what drives me, I try to help the kids in the midwest to think about divercity
and the world around them, here in america most of us are blinded by consumerism and don't think about culture.

3. You've played with quite a few well known bands, MU330, Johnny Socko & Catch 22 to
name but a few, who were the best to play with and who would you really like to play with?

By far the best band we've ever played with is Inspecter 7 they are the kings and queen of modern ska.
Catch 22 Has the best stage show and always works the crowd well Johnny Socko is also amazing live.
I would love to play with the pietasters, King Django, Sick of it all.

4. How would you describe your style and what are the bands influences?

we play SkaCore, influenced by East coast style Ska & Hardcore via east coast as well. Influences vary
from Warzone to the Slackers to Mu330.

5. What your local ska scene like?

Our local scene, we throw our own shows when we can afford it, we try to pull a mixed hardcore/ska/punk
crowd, other wise we drive 4-6 hours to play shows in bigger cities,  we are one of the few bands in the area
which play ska, besides Grubby Ernie from Des Moines, and there are a few bands in Omaha, Jimmy Skaffa,
Settle for Less, Then of course there is the big Chicago ska scene.

6. whats the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to the band?

Funny? Weird? some how people always say  "I normaly hate ska, but you guys kick ass, like Slayer!" and then
there was the time when a certain member of the band tried to piss out the window of the van by sticking his
ass out the window, but I think his nuts froze.
I once shot green foam out my ass singin, but that's what happens when you drink to much green tea.

7. You've already got one CD out and your working on your next release, will the songs on that
be along the same lines as your debut?

We are putting out an ep with Skinsuit, it should be done within the year, the recording quality is far superior to anything
we've done before, the songs have more of a danceable feel, some calypso with a dark vooddoo feel, a little bit of dub
in the mix with a thick hardcore guitar attack.

8. what stuff do you do in your spare time?

We all go to college, and work on promoting ourselves, bowling, kick around the soccer ball, drink coffee,
the band comes first.

9. how long has the band been together for?

Since the summer of '98

10. do the band play any covers during your set?

No covers, sorry we just don't do covers.

11. what were the last CD's you bought?

Rancid:new, Liberator:worldwide delivery,Madball:holditdown, King Django:Roots&Culture, Iron Maiden:new(Up the Irons!)

12. finally any shout outs, comments you'd like to make?

Shouts out to Creatures of Habit, Catch 22,First Grade Crush, ARA,Public Enemy, and all the suckas keeping it real in
duece triple O!
