Shootin Goon.
1. who plays what in the band and what do you guys do outside the band?
I'm Jimi and i play Bass, my little brother Paul plays guitar, Sam is our
drummer/driver, James A. sings our horns are Dan-sax, James W.(a.k.a.
Ferret)-trumpet and Tom on the T-bone. Outside of the band we do usual
things like, work, uni, drink, smoke, Skate, fuck off to Europe for the
winter to snowboard and just about anything to avoid to much practicing
2. Did you have any cd's / 7"ers out before "splottside rocksteady"?
No, not really we'd done a couple of demo's and been on a comp with a
couple of asian man bands but that was it. We didn't really try to hard
though.
3. What do you make of the current ska scene and the UK bands ?
As far as awsome bands go i think the ska scene in probably the best it's
been for a long time, there are so many good bands out there i can't even
start to name them. But the music still doesn't seem to be that popular,
alot of people i talk to don't even know what ska is until i mention
Madness or The Specials. Ska shows seemed to be getting bigger crowds last
year but it seems to have died off a bit latley as anyone who was at
Morecambe will tell you.
4. How did you get into ska?
Mainly through Punk bands like Op Ivy, early LTJ and Bosstones, but also
by
listening to my parents records. My mum is a huge reggae fan so i used
to
get bombarded with that as a kid. Also hearing bands like The Specials,
Madness and Bad Manners when i was growing up was a big influence.
5. How would you describe your style and what are the bands influences?
I think we pretty much fall into the backwards, valley boy Ska/punk pidgeon
hole. Although we don't play as much ska as we'd like so maybe that's where
we'll be heading next. As for influences it's quite difficult as everyone
likes different things, here we go: LTJ, The Specials, Madness, Toots,
Yellowman, RBF, Bad Manners, Happy Mondays, Minor Threat, Fugazi, Slayer,
Bob Marley Bosstones, OP Ivy, any northern soul, Eek a Mouse, Metallica
pus
a load i can't even remember.
6. whats the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to the band?
Funny things don't really happen to us just bad things, very bad things!
We
have a curse that follows us around and strikes without any warning, so
beware THE CURSE OF THE GOONS! Oh there was that time when the old T-bone
player stuck his mouthpiece up his ass.
7. What plans have the band got for the rest of the year?
We Just want to play as many shows as we can, go on tour again. We
definatly need to write some new songs as well. If any one can put us on
Any shows, we'll play anywhere email us: shootingoon@hotmail.com
8. how long has the band been together for?
About three years
9. what were the last CD's you bought?
