Here's Aaron, singer and masochist from the band.
Q1. Who's in the band and who plays what ?
'Uncle' Dave Albatross plays bass, sings and organizes most of the shit. John plays drums and does some backing vocals. Lee plays guitar and is also in Joe Ninety. Me (Aaron) sings and like to play with barbed wire.
Q2 What and who are the bands main influences ?
Dunno for the rest of the band, but a fair assumption would be Chaos UK, The Business, The Werent, The Dwarves, Quincy Punx, Antiseen,....just fast noisy, ballsy, punk stuff really. Cider has a lot of influence on us.
Q3. Why Did you quit the Write Offs ?
I quit the Write Offs cuz, to cut a long story short, it just wasn't fun anymore. Everyone suddenly started to take things way too serious and it just went to shit. There was all talk of managers, signing up, making moolah, and as nice as it'd be to make money from gigs - what's the point if being in the band meant nothing to me? I just stopped having fun, no fall outs, no hard feelings or out, in fact I've been helping write songs for Shrimp & Aidy's new band Basher. Watch out for them.
Q4. What were the last albums you bought ?
I get a lot of ska & punk stuff free to review, so a lot of what I buy generally ain't punk or ska (I like Ninja Tune stuff, and gansta rap). Some of the better records I've heard of late have been The Dwarves "Come Clean", Vision "Watch the world burn", Antiseen "Hell" (old but I just got a copy) and Give em the boot 2... I also got a copy of the WWF the music 4, some of that rocks...
Q5. What do you guys do outside the band ? i.e job wise.
I'm doing a HND in Multi Media at Harrogate. Students eh? It gives me a lot of time for a doing a zine, smoking weed, watching telly and braying bullies
Q6. What are your current plans, do you have any gigs lined up ?
I never know when we have gigs, I've got a really bad memory. I'd like
to so a small tour or something at some point this year maybe? Gigs are
a danger to my health, but I wouldn't have it any other way. My current
plans in Homebrew are to learn better stunts (involving powerbombs, thumb
tacks, steel chairs, tables, barbed wire and lots of blood - hopefully
stitches one day?),
(No steel cages or night sticks then?!! - Mark)
get some new stuff wrote and maybe get into the studio (although studios
hate us, and we hate them) and find another guitarist.
Q7. What have been your best gigs so far and the best bands you’ve played with ?
The last few have been great fun, that's when I started
playing with barbed wire during the set and busting my
head open with mics and razor blades. Some cool bands we done the biz
wiv: The Werent, Business, Chinaple punx, Dropkick Murphys, Oxymoron, Dog
on a Rope, Freaks Union, Violent Affray, The Restarts, Murphys Law, Jockney
Rejects, Oi Polloi, Gobber Patrol and Joe Ninety.
Q8. What have been the best gigs you've been to ?
The best gigs I've been to? Shit, dunno. Motorhead were good, both Hardskin gigs I've seen were good (one in London wiv Dog on a rope & Explosions, the other with DOAR & Voorhees in Leeds), Peter Bower gigs are always fun, mainly it always a good piss up - don't matter who plays. The first time I saw Bad Manners with Chris Bower, and seeing Exploited in Hull were both cool too.
Q9. Do you play any covers in your live set, is so what ?
Yeah, Chaos UK's "king for a day" and Diesel Queens "Fuck & Drink". I'd love to cover an Antiseen song (Cactus Jack) & GG Allin song (highest power).
Q10. The Thirsk 2000 fanzine included the last edition of your zine "my God can beat up your God". But your working on a new zine "Zine Cancer". What sort of stuff's gonna be in that ?
ZineCancer is gonna be THE zine to watch out for... Punk, Wrestling, horror, drugs, Thirsk? All that and more. The zine with balls the size of grapefruits. The first issue should be out May/June. Hopefully interviews with the IWF (American Independent Wrestling Federation - they're crazy sons o bitches, playing with barbed wire, glass, fire, the lot - totally hardcore!), plus a few punk bands, loads of articles, columnists, fucked up shit, other bits & bobs. Should be a fucking corker.
Q11. In "my god...." there's a lot of WWF mentioned, so whose your Favourite Wrestler?
Without a doubt it would be Mick Foley, especially as Cactus Jack. His matches in Japan '95 were fucking incredible! They've brought Cactus Jack back in the WWF now, so it'll be interesting to see if becomes the champion he oughta and do some fucking amazing stunts and stories, or if they'll use him up on nothing. Other great wrestlers : The Hardy Boys, The Dudleys, Too Cool, Chris Benoit, The Rock, Austin, I like the Kat (Miss Kitty) too. Non WWF ones Tommy Dreamer, spike Dudley, Rob Van Dam, Justin Credible, all from ECW. I like 'garbagey' bloody stuff from independents too. (AIWF, APW, etc...) JR Benson is a god!
Q12. Do you think the WWF's got better or worse in the last couple of years, what with the McMahon - Austin saga and Mae Young, isn't get a bit stupid ?
Better!!! Without a doubt, and it'll get much better over the next year
I promise. The McMahon/Austin Saga was amazing, and as for Mae Young -
I fucking love her! (Non
wrestling fans may want to note that Mae Young is a 77 year old pregnant
woman, sexy!! - Mark) The story lines have to go crazy to compare with
the stunts they're all doing. The WWF has everything: Decent talent, violence,
chicks and comedy. (not to mention puppies!)
Q13. So what's gonna happen in the WWF (or WCW or ECW) this Year then ?
WWF is going to go from strength to strength, I can't see them fucking
up, there's so much to look forward too. Austin, McMahon, Undertaker, Shamrock's
return and loads of new talent from WCW, Benoit, Guerrero, Malenko, etc..
(Yeah Benoit, Malenko plus Tazz are pretty good signings - Mark)
They have a load of cool wrestlers at the moment, who are continuously
improving (even Kane & HHH), and the usual boring Women's league is
even getting good (must be all the implants). If the WWF fuck up this year,
I'll eat my hat (saying that they've been known to fuck up royally in the
past). WCW will get worse and worse. ECW should get a lot more exposure
over the next few years, maybe even taking over from the WCW as one of
the "big two". Watch out for a new federation coming out of Thirsk some
time this year! All backyard nonsense. Hope it'll be a cross between Monty
Python, Japanese death matches, red neck backyard wrestling and of course
a good helping of Thirsk.
