Metro Stylee.

One of my favourite ska albums released in recent times has to be Metro Stylee’s self titled album a mix of classy soul and ska with delicious female vocals plus Vinny Nobile on Trombone.

Hi, I'm andy, the bassist of metro stylee.  Thanks for the interview.

What are the bands main influences ?

we all listen to many different type of music.  roots, ska, dub, soul trip-hop, jungle, hardcore, punk, rock, lounge, and pop.  ya know, a  little bit of everything.  as far as the song writing goes, it's all up in  the air.  we all write together.  everyone throw in their own two sense...

How long have you been together ?

Metro Stylee got together on June of 1995.  so, almost 4 years.  we had some horn members changed, but the singer, bass, guitar, and drums are  always the same.  The horn players eric, jane, and erok are all from different ska bands.  they all left their band to join the stylee crew.
Eric's from The Skunks DC, Jane's from Sarg. Scatt., CT, and erok's from  The Slackers, NYC.  my first band was Latin ska King Chango.  i started  Metro Stylee after i left King Chango.

What do you do outside the band ?

We all cater our jobs to the band.  it's all bullshit jobs if you  ask me.  actually, only my job is a bull.  i work w/ food.  but everyone  else have a normal job.  ya know, teachers, office crap, and what not.

Is there any chance you’ll be playing overseas or do you mainly gig in the New York area ?

We actually gig everywhere in the states, not just NY area. haven't gone out west yet.  But most of the states.  overseas? Love to, but  maybe later...

What’s the best thing about playing and living around New York ?

So I can say:  "oh yeah, well...I'm from New York fucking City!....."
Actually, NYC is great.  I love it. So many people, so many opportunities,  so many psychos.

Is there a new album or any new material in the pipeline ?

Plenty of new material.  We play many new songs, but not a new cd just yet.  We are still writing more tunes.

What have been your best gigs so far, or the best bands you’ve  played with  ?

I personally love to play with any band.  it's all about the love of music.  if you don't gig it, you shouldn't be doing it.  But I really enjoy playing with the Mad Caddies,  they are sooo good.  I do love to play with our NYC brother bands like Edna's Goldfish, and Pilfers.  We actually just got done doing a tour with them, and it was a blast.  We are all great friends, and it was like a big fucking party every night.

Cheers Andy thanks for your time.
