Marlow United’s horrendous league form continued at Almondsbury where they suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat and extending their losing league run to six matches in the process.

During that sequence they have scored just once and conceded a total of 24 goals, highlighting the plight of the team as they struggle to stay out of the relegation struggle.

The reality is that yesterday they gifted the home team three first half goals through defensive errors after more than matching the home team for the first 15 minutes during which time they could easily have taken the lead.

Marlow won two early corners as they took the game to their opponents, wary as they were having suffered a 4-0 defeat in the home fixture.

Although nothing came from the early pressure United looked the livelier of the two teams at this stage of the game. A Harry Pritchard cross causing problems in the Almondsbury defence with Britnell firing a shot goal ward before Ollie Flint sent Brown in the clear only for the Marlow forward to miss hit his effort.

Scott Webb saw his shot saved at the foot of the post as Marlow continued to look for the opener only for the home team to take the lead on 16 minutes completely out of the blue after a corner was cleared by the Marlow defence.

The ball was played hopefully back over the advancing rearguard and as the United defenders watched an Almondsbury forward retrieved what looked like a lost cause and crossed the ball into the near post where Ramsey palmed the ball onto the foot of Richard Kear who gratefully poked the ball over the line.

Marlow responded positively with Webb firing over from 20 yards and on 28 minutes a move involving Nick Flint and Lewis Brown ended with Ollie Flint firing just wide of the left upright.

Almondsbury were now playing with more purpose their passing and movement up front stretching the United defence but even so it took another error to set up the second goal with Nick Flint failing to clear and watching in horror as Coles weak effort rolled over the line on 40 minutes.

Ramsey then saved a point blank effort with Scott Benyon then clearing the ball off the line.

The home team were gifted a third goal on 47 minutes when Haines shot from 20 yards deceived custodian Ramsey and the ball sailed into the net.

United soon found themselves in further trouble with the dismissal of midfielder Ross Middleton on 55 minutes for retaliation after the Marlow man reacted to being fouled by Fowler.

This was seconds after Almondsbury had a penalty appeal turned down as Cole stumbled before falling in the area only for the referee to wave play on.

Down to ten men Marlow found themselves under increasing pressure and it came as no surprise when the home team increased their lead on 65 minutes in farcical circumstances, Kear’s first shot being parried in what appeared to be an innocuous effort and despite several attempts to clear the ball Kear was given the opportunity to fire home from close range.

Kear completed his hat trick on 83 minutes firing home from a corner.

Marlow’s Webb missed probably their best chance of scoring on 85 minutes when he fired wide of the left hand post when clear in the area.

By now the away side were just praying for the final whistle but the agony continued when sub Cai fired home from 15 yards to complete the scoring this after the referee first awarded a penalty for handball to Almondsbury only to change his mind after consulting his assistant.
