Marlow took the field against local rivals Chalfont Wasps, their third game in five days, with eight fit men and three walking wounded and a single substitute on the bench as the toll of cramming six matches in fifteen days finally came home to roost.

With suspensions and injuries robbing the manager of a further six players Marlow were struggling before a ball was even kicked.

As it was they held out until the 25^th minute, even creating two reasonable chances before conceding the first goal when Adam Paget converted from close range, his header just defeating the dive of keeper Ramsey.

The home team doubled their lead on 34 minutes as Lee Thompson controlled a cross from Miles and saw his shot on the turn find the back of the net from 12 yards.

Marlow’s Coull talked himself into the ref’s book a minute later, a decision which would cost him dear later in the game.

Marlow replaced the limping Middleton on 48 minutes, Buchanan replacing the midfielder before Chalfont increased their lead on 52 minutes, Thompson heading home from a free kick to score his second of the match.

Two minutes later and the away team found themselves in more trouble with Coull receiving his second caution for a late tackle leaving the team with 36 minutes to play with ten men.

The closest United came to scoring came following a run by Jon Mason into the Chalfont area with Wiltshire then bringing a good save from keeper Sillitoe.

Mason was stretchered off on 70 minutes following a fall in which he damaged his ankle leaving Marlow to battle on with just nine players, two of those , Doswell and Rowley carrying injuries to boot.

They held out until injury time when Thompson completed his hat trick, converting a cross from the right.

Marlow’s main concern is now to try and find eleven fit players for their penultimate game this Saturday at Highworth, their fourth game in seven days!
