SINGLE GOAL SINKS UNITED

FTL FUTBOL HELLENIC

PREMIER DIVISION

Fairford Town 1 Marlow United 0

A single goal scored on 47 minutes condemned Marlow to a third league defeat as they lost to Fairford Town in an undistinguished performance.

In truth Marlow could not complain as for much of the game they played second fiddle to the home team who moved above their opponents with this result.

United took time to settle as they attempted to run off the long midweek journey, several of the players arriving less than 30 minutes before the kick off.

As it was Fairford controlled much of the early play without threatening the Marlow goal with Doswell and Wiltshire standing firm in the centre of the defence.

It was the away team who looked more likely to open the scoring with Brown and Lanaway just failing to reach balls played in by Bowler.

Despite seeing less of the ball Marlow looked quite comfortable and only a timely interception robbed Doswell of a striking opportunity in the six yard box on 36 minutes following an Ollie Flint free kick.

Half time arrived with no score and little goalmouth action of any note for either side.

HT 0-0

Playing down the slope Marlow would have felt more confident as the second half began.

That they fell behind after just two minutes of the half as a long throw from the left was flicked to an unmarked Jack Williams who headed past a helpless Ramsey certainly changed that optimism.

Marlow huffed and they puffed but they never looked like breaching the Fairford defence, much of their play being disjointed and directionless.

The home team were quite content to absorb the pressure and catch United on the break, something they did with some success without adding to their lead.

The industrious Dan Pedley briefly threatened with a run into the area and

substitute Andy West had a snap shot on 88 minutes which bought a save from Roncinsky as the home team saw out the game until full time.
