MARLOW SINK TO SINGLE GOAL DEFEAT

BERKS & BUCKS FA

SENIOR TROPHY

QUARTER FINAL

Marlow United - 0 Flackwell Heath - 1

A single strike by Flackwell Heaths Ben Chadbone on 39 minutes decided this keenly contested Berks and Berks cup tie and consigned United to a second quarter final cup defeat after their recent exit from the Reading Senior cup.

Flackwell began the game in whirlwind style, Doswell just managing to rob Channon as he burst through in the first minute and Chadbone firing over when in the clear seconds later.

James Pritchard then saw his third minute free kick spilt by Ramsey with the follow up hitting the bar and going for a corner.

Marlow almost took the lead three minutes later when the dangerous Bowler saw his free kick defeat keeper Craven and crash against the bar with Harry Pritchard unable to control the rebound as he followed up.

A further Bowler free kick skidded wide and Pedley saw his looping shot easily collected by the keeper.

Harry Pritchard embarked on a surging run and cross with Wiltshire then heading over a Bowler cross.

Flackwell replied with a corner before a United free kick was cleared by the Flackwell defence to Green who played the ball back into Wiltshire who fired over.

The away team countered and Lanaway had to be alert, playing the ball back to Ramsey as Pritchard threatened.

A through ball to Chadbone resulted in the forward receiving the first caution of the game as he collided with Ramsey on the edge of the area.

Flackwell Heath were now looking the more dangerous side as Pritchard ran the midfield with his accurate passing and they almost took the lead on the half hour as a Lanaway clearance was intercepted and fired across the face of the goal.

Bowler was able to relieve the pressure, receiving the ball from Ollie Flint and embarking on a dangerous run.

The goal arrived on 39 minutes with Ackerman finding acres of space on the right, his shot hitting the bar and rebounding to Chadbone who guided the ball into the net from 12 yards.

HT 0-1

Flackwell began the second period as they did the first with Saville firing in a shot that Ramsey turned over the bar for a corner.

Benyon replaced the injured Lanaway on 52 minutes before Flackwell missed the chance of extending their lead as Channon played in Chadbone only for the goal scorer to fire wide as Ramsey advanced.

Marlow’s Bowler and Wiltshire followed one and other into the referees note book as the tempo of the game increased.

Cuva replaced Harry Pritchard on the hour as United attempted to threaten Heath’s goal but yet again it was the away team who should have increased their lead, this time Channon unable to convert a one on one with Ramsey delaying his shot and allowing the ball to be cleared.

Dan Flint substituted substitute Cuva on 70 minutes after a collision left the player unable to continue as Marlow huffed and puffed to little or no avail creating very little despite having the majority of the possession.

A Benyon free kick almost found Wiltshire in the area on 71 minutes but

the closest United came was an Ollie Flint shot that skidded across the area and went for a corner.

Bowlers kick was eventually met by Wiltshire who turned and shot wide.

Flackwell were catching Marlow on the break and Ackerman fired wide as did Chadbone a minute later.

Doswell almost connected from a Bowler free kick and Buchanan saw a shot saved as United kept up the pressure.

A Nick Flint free kick found namesake Ollie in the area and the Marlow man was twice tackled before he fell and the ball was cleared.

The referee bought proceedings to an end after 5 minutes of extra time which saw the away team playing out time and sealing their place in the semi final.

Marlow could have no complaints on the score.

Despite putting in a spirited second half they failed to threaten the make shift Flackwell defence.
