DIXON'S DELIGHT
FTL FUTBOL HELLENIC
PREMIER DIVISION
Marlow United - 5 Hook Norton - 0
Marlow strolled to a 5-0 thrashing of a youthful Hook Norton team at Wilks Park with new signing Lee Dixon notching an excellent second half hat trick, in truth the home team could have attained double figures such was their dominance in the game.
Marlow were straight on the offensive as they took the game to their troubled opponents.
In the first fifteen minutes a total of eight attempts were on target only for Hook keeper Joe White to produce an outstanding display aided by United’s forwards unerring ability to find the keeper when put through.
Middleton, Nichol, Dixon, Heywood, Britnell and Ollie Flint all had opportunities to open the scoring as the home team overwhelmed their opponents.
It took until the 19th minute for Hook to launch their first attempt on goal with Moulder sending a tame header into the arms of keeper Ramsey whist at the other end the chances continually went begging much to the distress of an increasingly agitated home bench.
The deadlock was finally broken on 23 minutes when a Mason free kick was glanced home with his head by Ollie Flint as the pressure finally told.
Two minutes later Dixon missed yet another sitter, firing wide with just White to beat only for Hook’s Moulder to miss an opportunity by miss kicking from 6 yards.
United lost captain Heywood on 34 minutes, the defender suffering a painful injury to his groin area that required six stitches at A and E when a Hook players accidentally caught him in the crutch .
Scot Webb replaced the injured player as the one way traffic continued Paget missing two opportunities, followed by the profligate Ollie Flint and Andy Nichol both of whom could have notched first half hat tricks.
United finally extended their lead on 43 minutes when Chris Paget atoned for earlier misses, heading home a Mason cross of the post.
Marlow should have added a third a minute later as Ollie Flint was bought down in the area by Ibbotson, the Hook player earning a yellow card for his troubles, only for Mason to see his spot kick saved by White, Mason’s second miss from the spot out of three attempts this season, with Dixon putting the rebound wide.
HT 2-0
Ramsey in the home goal, was forced to punch away an early corner as the half began but normal service was soon resumed with Webb firing an excellent effort off the bar on 49 minutes as the pressure mounted.
The third goal arrived a minute later with Ovens winning the ball in midfield, his pass releasing Dixon who placed the ball beyond White.
Dixon’s second, Marlow’s fourth came on 57 minutes as Nichol laid the ball into the forwards path the subsequent shot proving to good for the keeper.
Marlow bought on Buchanan and Corbett for Paget and Ollie Flint and the game became a rather scrappy affair, not helped when Hook’s Ibbotson was dismissed for a second yellow card on 65 minutes.
Dixon achieved his hat trick on 83 minutes firing home a spectacular free kick after Mason was fouled, a remarkable achievement for a player playing his first 90 minutes at this level as the home sauntered to a decisive win.
Credit is due to an extremely youthful Hook Norton who continued to battle until the end despite facing a fifth successive league defeat.
It was a delighted Kevin Carvell, Marlow manager, who spoke after the game “It was frustrating watching those chances go begging but it all came right in the end. Remember we have several inexperienced players at this level and we can only get better as they improve. We have another tough fixture coming up against Binfield so we will have to be at our best”
