TOWN TOO STRONG FOR MARLOW
FTL FUTBOL HELLENIC
PREMIER DIVISION
Marlow United 2 Hungerford 5
Runaway league leaders Hungerford proved to strong for Marlow United at Wilkes Park as they swept past the home team with a four goal second half blitz, this after United had twice taken the lead and went in at half time leading 2-1.
Any hope of an upset were soon extinguished as Hungerford hit three goals inside eight minutes of the second half through Saunders, Fila and Lewis leaving the shell shocked home team with a mountain to climb.
It had all begun promisingly for Marlow who after weathering a shaky start with keeper Andy Walden coming to their rescue took the lead on 18 minutes.
A corner from the left was met on the volley by Mark Doswell who saw his shot fly into the net from 12 yards.
Walden was called into action once more saving from Edney before Hungerford equalised on 27 minutes, Macklin firing home from 8 yards.
Undeterred the home team replied with Ollie Flint picking up a poor clearance from keeper Green and cheekily chipping the ball over the stranded custodian two minutes later.
Centre forward Nicol sent Lewis Brown clear only for the forward to see his effort blocked as Marlow attempted to increase their lead.
Hungerford’s Concannon saw his header crash against the crossbar as the away team piled on the pressure, Bedwell missing with a header from close range following a cross from the left.
Marlow’s Buchanan was replaced on 45 minutes suffering from a broken nose as the half came to a close.
HT 2-1
United were left reeling as the half commenced, conceding the equaliser within the first minute.
A corner from their right was missed by Walden and Saunders had the simple task of scoring from close range.
Hardley had the home team kicked off than they found themselves behind for the first time in the game.
This time a throw from the right was not cleared and Fila blasted home for Hungerford's third goal.
Worse was to follow on 53 minutes as a cross from the right was met by the unmarked Lewis who scored with a crisp shot past Walden.
The leagues leading scorer Ian Concannon hit the bar from 20 yards before being replaced only for Marlow to concede the fifth goal on 73 minutes with the defence once again failing to clear a ball leaving sub Rusher the opportunity to find the back of the net.
Despite the setbacks the home team kept plugging away with Ollie Flint seeing his 20 yard effort skim the bar and Nicol just unable to reach Coull’s through ball.
The game ended with Hungerford continuing their relentless march to the title and Marlow left to contemplate an important home fixture against fellow strugglers Carterton at Wilkes Park this Monday.
