LETHARGIC MARLOW DOWNED BY CITY SLICKERS
FTL FUTBOL HELLENIC
PREMIER DIVISION
Marlow United 0 Oxford City Nomads 3
It was a case of after the lords mayors show as United turned in a dire performance after their midweek defeat of Witney, shipping 3 goals against Oxford without reply.
Missing four players from Tuesday’s game was always going to be hard for the home team but the manner of their defeat left the management and supporters desperately disappointed.
Oxford began the game in positive style and took an early lead as Ferriera smashed home a loose ball on 4 minutes after United’s Nick Flint twice failed to clear presenting the Oxford man the opportunity which he gratefully accepted.
Pedley saw a shot blocked from Coopers cross as Marlow attempted to pull the goal back before Oxford’s Forbes almost doubled the lead, his volley from Ferreira's cross skimming the bar on 14 minutes.
Marlow hit back with Corbett, Webb and Pedley combining, the later gaining a free kick which was punched away by keeper Wiley. The ball was returned by Webb to Ollie Flint his effort being blocked by Meade.
Nomads doubled their lead 3 minutes later following a free kick awarded against Degalas.
Ferrier’s kick was parried by keeper Murray and the ball fell to Ben Moses who fired home from close range.
Two down and United looked deflated and it showed in their play which was lethargic in the extreme.
With no threat upfront Cooper was replaced by assistant manager Wiltshire on 36 minutes and he at least added some urgency to the play although Oxford keeper Wiley had little to do as half time arrived.
HT 0-2
Although Marlow had more of the possession in the second half once again they rarely tested Wiley and it was Nomads who threatened to increase their lead.
In fact if Roper had made more of the opportunities that came his way he could have notched a hat trick and doubled the score line in the process so woeful were the home team.
The final goal arrived on 89 minutes as a long ball out of defence saw Moses beat an onrushing Murray to the ball and guide the ball over the keeper and into the net to complete Marlow’s misery.
Last Saturday saw Oxford lose 3-1 at Witney, Tuesday saw Marlow win 2-1 at Witney and Saturday saw!
Funny old game is it not.
