Chiwalrus the Chivalrous Walrus

Once upon a time, there was a walrus, who was affectionately referred
to as "Chiwalrus" because of his quest to be a gentleman. Chiwalrus
made many attempts to give up his rock to the ladies as he was basking in
the sun, or to catch some herring for his fellow walruses.
Unfortunately, all his attempts resulted in disastrous consequences. One
afternoon, he relinquished his rock to an older dame, only to later find out
there had been a giant crab on it, which pinched the old walrus's snout,
leaving her paralyzed from neck up. The old walrus could still swim,
but could no longer eat. Chiwalrus was overcome by grief. He never did
anything right. He thought about the time when he was trying to court
Roberta. He went to the bottom of the sea to pick her a bouquet of the
most beautiful flora and fauna of the mer. The bouquet was truly
beautiful, but much to Roberta's dismay, also poisonous. The most beautiful flowers of all, which Chiwalrus picked in plentitude, were the poison ivy of the sea. Roberta's beautiful brown fur turned orange and then
fell off in clumps. She moved to the Caspian Sea, and Chiwalrus never
saw her again. Chiwalrus thought that he must do something to help the
old walrus. He could not let her starve to death. As he was
contemplating this issue and swimming, he came across the dead body of a whale.
An idea popped in his head. He would remove the baleen from the whale
and attach it in the old walrus' mouth. Then, when the old walrus would
swim, plankton would be filtered into her system, and she would not die
of starvation. Chiwalrus found some sharp broken shells and began
cutting the rubbery baleen out of the whale's mouth. The baleen was rather
large, and the process of removing it took quite some time. Finally,
as the last piece of it was being tugged off, Chiwalrus heard a blood
curdling shriek and felt a strong wind blowing towards him. He grabbed
the baleen and started swiftly swimming away from the wind, when he
realized that it was coming from the whale. The whale had been alive!
Chiwalrus swam away in panic, and the whale followed, but not for long.
It soon wore itself out, and died from a loss of blood. Chiwalrus felt
bad, but at least the old walrus would be saved. He quickly attached a
piece of the baleen to the walrus. The baleen worked! The walrus was
able to swim with her face in the water, and small marine creatures
would filter into her mouth.
For the first time in his life, Chiwalrus did something right! He did
not reveal the tragedy that occurred while obtaining the baleen. It
would soon be found out. Chiwalrus had been spotted by one of the whales,
and they now had a coup against him. One day, as he was catching
herring, he was surrounded by whales. They found the baleen he had taken
from their friend. They attached it on his mouth in a way that he would
only be able to eat the baleen filtered plankton. Chiwalrus miserably
looked at the 5 herring on his rock.. He would never be able to eat
them again. 3 days went by. He was getting hungry, so he lowered his
face into the water and began to consume the filtered organisms. He was
getting extremely frustrated and began to crave the herring. He
approached the rock with the herring and began sniffing it. He couldn't go on this way any longer. He stuffed the herring in his snout and inhaled
deeply. Then he reached back in to pull the herring out by their tails,
but he had inhaled too deeply. He knew he wouldn't survive long, so he
decided to enjoy his last few moments. He lowered his face back into
the water and fed on plankton while inhaling herring and imagined that
was what he was feasting on.
