To me this looks like the gateway from land to sea at Shellman Bluff. I think this is such a pretty view of Shellman from the land.
This picture was taken at high tide.
This is more of Shellman Bluffs waterfront. That thing that looks like a pier in the background is one of the rigs for putting a boat in the water. This picture was taken at low tide. You can see how low it gets. The bottom is exposed. The sandbar is that light colored area.
We took the boat out to Blackbeards Island. This is a point where Black- beard and Sapelo almost touch. We were told that you can walk from one to the other at low tide. We were afraid of getting stuck out here at low tide so we decided to head back. We would like to go here again and be prepared to camp out here on the island.
We got stuck on a sandbar almost as soon as we started to head back. The tide was dropping fast, like someone had pulled the drain plug! We managed to get the boat off the mudbar, and this nice fellow offered to let us follow him back in to Shellman Bluff. Joe loved this ride back. It was so fun to be able to go fast and not worry about the mudbars and oyster beds. I am not so sure we even would have found our way back without him!
This is a picture of Sunrise at Shellman Bluff the following morning. We camped on the boat there on the right. It is too dark to see the tent up on the boat, but it was a great place to camp.
To see an old fishing camp we found while we were boating...
