Getting the hole in the ground

Day One

I decided on a horseshoe shape. With a shallow area above for a bog area to naturalize the pond.

I had marked the spot with lime so that Mr Dancy knew exactly where I wanted my hole.

Day Two

Then I dug an edge around the pond. A place to ancher the liner with rocks. And work on leveling the site.

The hole was dug to allow for shelves 8"to 12" down, around the sides for marginal plants, and emergency pet or child escape.  I even formed some steps.

Day Three

I was able to use a 2x4 and a level. Working around the entire pond,  re- moving soil to get the site level.  You do not want the liner showing above the waterlevel.  This lip represents your water level in your finished pond.
