Yanina talks to her uncle Bautista about things she knows about that
she can use to gain some respect and favors at CR, such as the fact
that there's something going with Juan and Aimee and the curandera
telling them that Juan is the bastard son of Don Francisco.
Juan takes Colibri to Cabo del Diablo, where he was born and lived
as a kid. Juan tells him they might leave soon and never return to
Saint Pierre. Colibri is wondering if Monica is leaving with them.
Juan says no. 'Noone can hurt more those of us who lived
'desdichados' than those who want to turn us good and straight. The
world is hard and cruel and evil. you have to be strong,
insensitive, selfish, you have to step over anyone or anything that
gets in your way. That's the only way you can survive and live as
long as I have'.
PN is talking to Da. Sofia and tells her that Juan will never
change. Maybe if they had grown up together as brothers, then maybe
Renato and Juan would understand and tolerate each other better. Now
it is not in our hands to fix the past. There's no way to change it
now, or to avoid a confrontation between them...
Da. Sofia is afraid that Renato is the weaker side in this
confrontation...(..a poco...)
She claims that Juan and Renato are the same age, that Don Francisco
was playing with her and the other woman at the same time. She still
wants to take Juan away from there. PN wants time to try to make
Juan leave in exchange for big money, since CR has got twice as
wealthy and twice as big as 15 years ago.
Monica is trying to make Colibri tell her about Juan's plans. Juan
arrives right then and starts insulting her about trying to trick
the little boy into talking.
Noel finds Juan and does not even have time to make the proposal.
Juan has guessed that Da. Sofia is offering money in exchange for
his leaving. Juan says she sees him as a bad shadow for Renato. He
claims that when he was a boy she denied him anything, even looked
bad at anyone who gave him even a piece of bread (maybe he refers
here to his father trying to help him out, don't know..) or a place
in CR,. She had no pity for him. Now she wants to put lots of money
in his hands so she will get rid of him, not to have to stand his
presence around CR. He will leave, but does not want her money.
There's only gem in D"Autremont house that he wants and he is taking
that one with him. Juan asks PN to say goodbye to everyone for him
because he is leaving. Monica has heard all of this and she and PN
are afraid to even guess what Juan is up to.
Renato was also watching them (but could not hear) from a distance
and wants Monica to get some rest. He is leaving for the fields to
take her place while she takes a rest but she begs him not to get
away from CR house, not today at least. He insists. Renato tells PN
that Monica might be in love with Juan. She cares about Juan, just
like he and PN also care about him, whether they want to or not.
Renato tells him Aimee had told him she went to visit hm to find out
some things she had told Juan to get for her on his trip (the
imported perfumes). (PN has just denied to Renato that he knew Aimee
from before so Renato is very confused ).
Renato knows he needs to ask Aimee her story to clear his doubts
about this.
PN wants to cover for Aimee claiming his mind fails him often.
Renato says he's glad he's not jealous. He believes completely, he
loves completely. He trusts his wife. If he did not, he would have
taken matters into his own hands by now. Even the most beautiful
woman can commit an infamy. A man finds in a woman his disgrace or
his death. When he loves he puts it all on the line. Honor.. his
name, with all the rights and responsibilities, including 'pedirle
cuentas estrechas' for what she does with the name and honor she is
given.
Renato takes PN to the office. He wants to talk about past stories,
about his father, for beginners....
