Andy Warhol for Martini and Rossi (1958-60)
These works of the pre-Pop Warhol are included for the record and for
those who admire this designer. I give him credit for one unfortunately
influential insight: the hollowness of fame is not absolutely null but
has just enough substance to be turned into an end in itself. With
sufficient impudence, he saw, one could become famous by being hollow or
famous for being famous. Cheek could be chic. I have not consulted Jesse
Kornbluth, Pre-Pop Warhol (New York: Panache Press, 1988) and do not know
if this work for Martini and Rossi is discussed.
