Match Report
Team A 14 - 20 Team B
Following the controversy over the alleged fixing of the draw, the draw was made in front of O'Donnell and still worked out about as fair as ever. Team B had the better start and soon raced into a 4-0 lead, which Team began to peg back quite quickly after that with the aid of some inept defending and goalkeeping from Team B, which included a howler from Robert Desmond when he let the ball slip through his grasp and between his legs from an unspectacular John Garry effort, very Massimo Taibi-esque. John Garry himself then dropped a clanger for Team A and this was soon followed by a mistake from Calvey which also led to a soft goal. A strange effort from the Mule rounded the first half off, when the ball hit off his thigh and went in. The score was 8-7 to Team A at the break. In the second half, Team B really came out and gave it the full gun, early doors. Calvey was the usual amusement arcade, full of tricks and flicks but not really going anywhere, so he stuck a reducer into John Garry early doors in the second half. The teams were even up until 10-10, when Gormally leapt to gather a high ball and Dave Lillis stuck a reducer into him while he was in the air, which resulted in Gormally landing on this arse bone, which took a bit of a whack, but he was OK. However, he promptly recovered from this, and went outfield, where almost immediately, he picked up a loose pass from the Mule, waltzed around Hourihane, sold Sean an outrageous dummy, Ryan Giggs like, in fact, and toe poked it past John G for the goal of the game and Team B never looked back from there. Team B appeared inspired by this bit of wizardry and in true Harry Potter style raced into a 17-11 lead, Team A got it back to 18-14, but 2 goals from Rob and Calvey made it 20-14 and that was that.
