| Match Report Team A 13 - 13 Team B The first indoor soccer match of 2002 saw the historic first draw ever. The match kicked off 2 hours later than usual because it was quiet down there. As expected, everybody was a bit rusty having not played since before Christmas and a bit unfit. The opening exchanges were quiet enough, until Ronan Hourihane placed the ball beyond Gormally's reach to open the scoring. This seemed to wake Team B up and through some decisive play from Phil Bourke, which allowed debutant Martin O'Donoghue to weave his magic in midfield and unlock the Team A defence at will, even with the collossus that is Podge contained within that defence. Team B took the lead, this was soon pegged back to 3-3, but a superb left footed effort from Gormally put them back in the driving seat. Then came the first break, when debutant Donnacha Burke had to leave the playing area and get sick because he was on the beer the night before. On the resumption of play, Team B were guilty of some poor finishing particularly from Lillis and Wooly. Lillis later made up for this at the other end with a string of fine saves to deny Team A, one of which unfortunately resulted in him hurting his fingers and he had to be replaced by Gormally. Team B then built up a nice lead courtesy of some good goals from Phil Bourke and the ever impressive John Fallon (?). Unfortunately Donnacha Burke's nightmare debut at this level came to a premature end, when he got sick again and had to be replaced by Robert Desmond, who hadn't been playing due to strained knee ligaments. However, the boy Burke showed some nice touches and no one would be surprised if he made the breakthrough again some day, preferably not after a night on the beer. So, Rob went in goal and Team A then scored 4 goals to level things up, including the first in a long, long time from Sean O'Donnell, which was well deserved, and so long overdue in fact that the opposing goalkeeper at that time, Gormally, celebrated the goal with O'Donnell. Their tally also included 10 goals from the impressive Hourihane, including some cracking drives and an opportunistic effort from Daire Mullan.Team B went ahead by one and Team A levelled before we were told to finish up by a member of staff in the Arena, so an enjoyable game ended in a draw.
