Match Report

Team A 24 - 22 Team B

On a fresh Friday February morning, we managed to scrape 10 together for soccer, with others not playing due to FYP meetings, dodgy legs, the beer and suspensions or in Sean O'Donnell's case, all 4!! Anyway, this meant debuts for Donie C and Sean Keane at this level, who were happy to oblige. Kick off was delayed for 15 mins due to a member of Team B falling out of bed at 9:55. Anyway, in a very good game, Team A always had the upper hand and led most of the way, with everybody playing well. Mule appears to have shrugged off his "slow motion" syndrome. Robert Desmond was making his comeback after a while out with a knee ligament injury. The debut boys, Sean Keane and Fee were paired together on the same team, due to the open draw system, which was conducted this week by Hailey Kierse in the vax computer lab the night before in the presence of independent observer, Regina Doody, many thanks to them!! Team A raced into an early lead, but Team B were always dangerous in attack with Ronan Hourihane proving once again that his ranginess is less of a problem these days. Podge and Sean were trying to keep the defence in order with Rob and Fee making an effort to make an impression on the game. Team A attacked as a unit mostly and this proved very effective as they invariably had an effort on target when they ventured upfield. At the break Team A led 10 - 6. Donie C was almost declared deceased at half time, passing out on a bench on the basketball court. Team B started the second half impressively, and pulled the score back to 13 -13. Gormally then left the goal and scored a quick fire hat trick to make the score 16 - 13. Indeed, I think its fair to say that he ran the show for Team A in the second half, and ended up with a record tally of 12 goals to his name. This prompted many jibes from Wooly, such as "Are we getting in your way?" Team B pulled the margin back to 2 goals a few times, including a strike from Podge, ending his long goal drought, but could never get closer than that as Team A won the match in the end.
