Ansegisel was the son of the powerful Austrasian nobleman, Bishop Arnulf of Metz, and was married to Saint Begga, daughter of
the more powerful Austrasian nobleman Mayor Pepin I.

While wife of Bisinus, King of the Thuringian Franks, she and her husband took in the exiled Childeric, King of the Salian Franks.
When Childeric returned to his throne shortly after, Basina followed him and married him. Their son was Clovis, who succeeded
his father as King of the Salian Franks in 481.
