I want to be your lover but that cannot be,
Because I am married that is my problem I see.
To come to terms with it that's what I must do,
But I can't change my feelings for you.

What I don't want is to see you sad,
I would be happier seeing you glad.
The thought of losing you as a special friend,
Would be the end of something I don't want to end.

Your friendship is something I do dearly cherish,
Should I lose it I would surely perish.
As a friend with you I really want to remain,
I must be honest if your trust I want to attain.

Now I understand your hurt and your pain,
I don't want to be the cause of it happening again.
So it seems it's better that friends we stay,
But who knows what can happen along friendships way.
