Plot Outline Archy McNally of McNally & Son's Department of Discreet Enquiries is asked by Melva William's to shield her daughter Veronica, after she claims she shot her husband, Playboy Geoffrey Williams dead.

He realizes things are not what they seem, when he is also asked to solve the case of the blackmail of John Fairhurst. Fairhurst's dad, who is known to have died in the ill-fated "Titanic", in reality, had dressed as a girl and escaped. Now some one knows about this, and wants some money.

Seth Walker, the chauffer has been recommended by the late Geoffrey and is not what he seems. McNally has seen Veronica talking to Seth. Melva's narration of the events is not the same as her maid's. What exactly has happened?

Comments Lawrence Sanders has a unique style of writing similar to P G Wodehouse. While his plots are not similar to PGW, the wit and satire are similar. The language is easy and the book is a fast read. Sanders has written several "McNally" novels, besides his "...Deadly Sin" series.
