Bring on the Bad Guys

Hi, all;

This site was completed in February 1998, about four months after I stopped reading comics. Although I may add the occasional silver age or bronze age character when I get nostalgic, no adjustments to existing bios will be done. Any recently-added bios are below, in the "Most recent updates" section. Oh, and really; don't steal any of the bios for your own site/role playing game/whatever. (Yes, this has happened. More than once. Grr.)

In the course of making a couple of minor graphical edits here and there (because this site was originally created back before monitors had "millions of colors" as an option and, BOY, are some of the background graphics garish when you can SEE the full range of colors), I discovered most of the DareDevil links weren't working. Should be okay now!

Feb. 2, 2005
Gosh, there were a boatload of missing graphics and broken links in the Heroes for Hire section! Hopefully all fixed now.

January 28, 2004
Oops, seems I forgot to include the "Onslaught" bio when the site moved to Geocities from Sigma.net. A six-year-old rant seems a bit outdated now, but for those of you who remember the marketing horror that was "Onslaught," it should bring back some memories. Not necessarily nice memories, but memories none-the-less. Thanks to the several people who pointed out the broken link!

Y'know, I just realized that most of the links to bios on this page don't work because they're from the OLD site. Might want to save yourself the 404 frustration and not click on them, at least until I remove the codes! (Of course, once the codes are removed there will BE no links to click on...)

January 4, 2004
Okay, all Spidey bios should be back, PLUS the sound bytes associated with them should now work. In the future, I hope some of you nice folks will please let me know when entire sections go MIA so I can get 'em back up ASAP. Thanks!

December 3, 2003
Ah, the perils of free webspace... The Spidey Villains site has been deleted by The Powers That Be, aloneg with all of its bios. I'll re-upload as I can, time-permitting, but it will take a while. All the fault of that pesky movie, which made Spidey so popular that it used up too much bandwidth! ;-)

January 20, 2003
Been doing quite a bit of tweaking lately! X-Men fans will notice that backgrounds, balloons and sounds now work. Sounds should also work for the Iron Man and Daredevil sections. Daredevil bios have been moved in anticiption of increased movie-related traffic, so hopefully some of the pressure on the main site will be lessened. The Should've, Could've bios have finally been uploaded. Lots (although not all) of covers all over the site should now load when clicked on. Whew!

September 8, 2002
Wow, forgot I hadn't finished uploading stuff! The Marvel Monsters bios are now online and working.

October 5, 2001
Remember what I said about all sounds working? Well, forget it. As part of its crackdown on gigabyte usage, Geocities has dumped all of my sound files. They take up too much bandwidth. So no sounds at all on this site from now on. Sorry!

June 24, 2001
All links, sounds and images on the Spidey Villains page and the Threats on a Cosmic Scale page should now work.

June 7, 2001
For those of you at the new Geocities site: all links, sounds and images on the Megalomaniac Types page should work.

April 13, 2001
Fixed the cover links on Klaw's page.

April 10, 2001
The Captain America page re-organized, so I had to correct Baron Blood's link on the "Where Monsters Dwell" page. These furshlugging people who keep updating their pages...sheesh!

March 29, 2001
While I was at it, I corrected a slew of links on the Spider-Man Villians page, mostly making sure links to reviews, covers and story summaries on Jonathon's Couper's Spider-Fan page worked. I also deleted a lot of dead links in the More Comic Stuff section.

March 25, 2001
(Knocks on monitor) Is this thing on? (Waves) Hi, out there! No, the site's not open, but I'm in the process of culling my comics collection, so it seemed like a good time to finish The Scorpion's bio. Three years in the making! Whew!

October 3, 1998
Warlock's primal enemy The Man-Beast can now be found on the Cosmic Threats page.

September 29, 1998
Iron Fist's first-ever major villain, The Ninja, has been added to the Heroes for Hire section.

September 15, 1998
The bio for Set is online with a new cover gallery featuring various crisises caused by the Serpent Crown and a new word balloon. The front page has been restored to its pre-crash state, the top-ten page has been relocated, and I've put a "mission accomplished" statement at the top of this page. The site is (once again) done!

September 11, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

My favorite Avengers' villain, Ultron, got an extensively re-written bio and cover shots of Avengers 67, Avengers 135, and Avengers 202. That inspired me to go and redo a few things on the bio of my other favorite Avengers' villain, The Grim Reaper. Although The Walrus bio was in place, updated the images. Baron Zemo has most (not all) of the sound files missing.

Guess what? Except for everyone's favorite Serpent god, Set...all the bios are back on line!

September 10, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

Thanos, which for some reason is one of those bios I can never stop messing with, got a new word balloon and was slightly re-written. Titanium Man also got a new word balloon and some color-corrected images. The cover of Uncanny X-Men 5 was added to the Toad bio. Upgraded verbage for Tombstone. New or upgraded balloons on Technet, Turner D. Century, Toad, the Trapster and Ultimatum.

September 9, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

Revamped balloons, images and verbage on Stryfe and Super-Adaptoid. System Crash also got a new balloon.

September 8, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

Splice got a new word balloon and I added a link to Alex Flores' bio. Spymaster also had some links added. Stane's color scheme was mixed up, so the links and background were corrected; he also got a color-corrected image and a drop shadow added to his balloon.

September 4, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

Daimon got some re-worked verbage. The Grey Zone is now complete!

September 3, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

In the just-when-you-thought-nothing-else-could-go-wrong dept., the back-up ZIP disk that held bios M-Z developed a disk error that prevented me from accessing several of the files. It was finally repaired with Norton Utilities and successfully transferred to a new disk sans disk errors, but bios Shocker through Baron Zemo almost went bye-bye. I'd think this site was cursed...but I'm a scientist, so I don't believe in stuff like curses. (Now excuse me while I dodge this falling anvil...)

August 27, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

Dithered about with the S.O.S.'s word balloon and added one to the Serpent Society bio. Added X-Men 14 to the Sentinels' bio.

The Scorpion was in the "working" stages before the site crashed. I decided to upload the non-finished version of the bio instead of pausing at "sc" in the uploading process while I finished it. If I stopped for Scorpion I'd have to stop for Scorpio and Scarecrow, then I'd have to stop for other "s" villains like the Shadow King and the Sphinx -- and before you know it, two months would have gone by with people wondering why I wasn't working on anything! I'll get back to 'em one of these days. Really.

August 26, 1998
In the "oops" category, I uploaded a dinky little thumbnail of Iron Fist 14 on Sabertooth's page instead of the nice, big scan. That's been corrected. Also corrected were some links on the various Green Goblin bios. Several of the images on those bios are stored on The Spider-Man Page, where I started my internet career (such as it is) reviewing issues and writing bios. The editor of that site recently reorganized his directories, so some other links may need fixing as well.

Other "just tidying up" things done recently: I found a folder with several "Strange Tales" scans in it. So I put a nice, clean Strange Tales 117 on The Eel's page to replace the scummy image formerly there. Strange Tales 113 was added to the Plant Man's page. Plant Man got a couple of other things done: the background logo wasn't loading so I corrected that, plus I cleaned up one of the other images. The Scourge bio was uploaded with a larger image of him wasting the Basilisk and a new word balloon I tried to make look blood-smeared, although I don't think it quite came out right...

August 20, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

Sabes got a rescanned Iron Fist 14 and a new scan of Uncanny X-Men 222.

August 11, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios include:

New word balloon for the Resistants. Shadows added to balloons for the Ringer and the Rose. I also removed a paragraph from the Rose's bio which read as follows: "And Who Have We Here? Richard Fisk entered the Witness Protection Program after fighting the Enforcers, the Foreigner, and his former best friend Alfredo, the new Kingpin, in Web of Spider-Man 97-100. But the Rose has been lurking among the city's crime bosses, meekly toeing the criminal line. If it's Richard under that lilac-colored mask, the cartel leaders of New York had best be watching their backs!" According to my pal Jonathon Couper over at the Spider-Man page, the "new" Rose was revealed to be--no lie--news reporter Conover. Makes me glad I dropped comics. (And annoys me since I had to re-arrange all the images on the page, and add unnecessary verbage, to adjust for the new spacing!)

August 9, 1998
Most recently uploaded bios included:

Radioactive Man had the cover of Avengers 54 added. The Reaper's word balloon is missing, but the rest of the file is working. The Red Skull was given a new directory, several new covers (some from the 1940s thanks to Ben Herman, a regular contributor when the site was active), and reworked verbage.

July 18, 1998
The long-promised Puma bio (hi, Matt!) is now up and running.

July 14, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

The Purple Man got a shadow added to his word balloon and a re-scanned DareDevil 88. There was also an unprocessed "movie" file in his directory, so I made a WAV of him saying "Obey me!" from XMEN: TAS. Pyro (which for some reason, of the bios I wrote myself, is my very favorite one) was pretty darned near perfect and didn't need anything done to it.

July 12, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Re-vamped word balloons for Proteus and Psionex. The Punisher proved to be one of those bios that mysteriously survived the initial info dump; however, I went ahead and re-did the word balloon and re-sized an image. The sounds attached to the Punisher bio were lost, so those were re-uploaded.

July 11, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

There was an extra image floating around in Proctor's folder, so I added it to the bio.

July 9, 1998
One bio uploaded in the last day:

Sergei got a new image from Quasar 19, as well as two Quasar covers and a re-done word balloon.

July 8, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Portal got a brand new balloon; Porky's was revamped.

July 3, 1998
One bio uploaded in the last day:

A broken graphics link in Juggernaut's bio was fixed -- thanks to a sharp-eyed reader whose email I lost (but they know who they are!)

June 29, 1998

June 20, 1998
One bio uploaded in the last day:

Mysterio's bio is completely new.

June 19, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

These are all new-to-the-site bios, which regular contributor Kirk Furlotte claims were sitting on his hard drive when I pulled the plug on the site back in February. (Hey, I believe him!) Me, I'm working on Mysterio and Man-Beast bios, which since they both have long, complicated histories, might take a while.

June 18, 1998
One bio uploaded in the last day:

Mister Fear's bio is completely new.

June 17, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Oddball got a brand-new word balloon. I added the cover of DareDevil 20 to the Owl's bio, which is a fun one since it has the Owl with vivid yellow hair. DareDevil was a title plagued through-out its run with coloring mistakes, usually relating to hair color (Karen Page turned up brunette a few times, and Matt's own red hair was inconsistant). The other title that couldn't keep hair color straight was the Defenders, where Kyle Richmond had everything from blond to auburn to dark, dark brown locks.

The sounds for the Apocalypse bio, which went AWOL after the Site Meltdown (have I mentioned the Site Meltdown?) are now back online. The Modok sounds have been processed and added to his bio, plus I found a bunch of DareDevil sounds that I put on the Kingpin bio.

June 16, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Nebulon got a couple of color-corrected images, as did Nefarius' namesake Count Nefaria, whose directory overwise survived the site's info dump in pretty good shape. Nefarius, however (one of the last bios put up before I closed the site), needed some editing and a word balloon. Nightmare got re-vamped word balloon and a new scan of Dr. Strange 170. From what folks tell me (I haven't read X-books in over a year...heck, I haven't read any non-Silver-Age comics in the last six months!), Nimrod was revealed to be Bastion; after plowing through some related posts from DejaNews, I updated the bio accordingly and decided not to ask how Nimrod could become Bastion after going through the Siege Perilous and have taken on the former X-Men as Nimrod in X-Factor 36. (Because you know the Powers That Be will just shrug and say, "different robot.") And I added a drop-shadow to the Nimrod word balloon, too, because there's no point in having a nifty program like Photoshop if ya don't use it. On the non-bio front, the "awards" logos have been uploaded.

So I was looking at the Namor bio, thinking--what, no Defenders? No Fantastic Four? What idiot put this together? So there are three more covers (one FF, two Defenders) to illustrate Namor's long history in comics, and I tossed in a Super-Villain Team-Up as well--just to remind everyone that the Sub-Mariner has been a really, really bad guy at times. Oh, and I found (and then updated) his word balloon. Not that I'm a perfectionist or anything...

June 15, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Mojo got the big, fat word balloon he so richly deserves. The Namor bio was updated, but is missing a couple of cover images and its word balloon. I think all the sounds are in place, though! And I corrected the link on the Monsters page so the balloon would load properly.

June 14, 1998
Uploaded the "buttons" for the menu bar (click on "Menu buttons" at the top left-hand corner of the menu frame to see what the heck I'm talking about--I personally don't like 'em but I got complaints when I discontinued them).

June 13, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

New balloons on just about all. New verbage on Modak and the Molecule Man. Modak should be getting some sounds in a couple of days (raw sounds were in his folder; they need to be worked on a bit).

"World's Greatest Cat"
Pushkin
July 1978-June 1998

June 12, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Fabian got some images shifted around and a new word balloon. Mephisto also got a word balloon.

June 11, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

The H'yulthri bio is new. Maximus' bio has had the cover of FF 83 added. The Avengers 7 scan was found, and has been added to the Masters of Evil page.

June 10, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

The Mandarin had sounds added. Looks like I had recorded a bunch of sounds prior to quitting comics and shutting down the site, and just forgot all about them. So the site's crashing was serendipity. (Well, "serendipity" for folks who like downloading sounds; a bunch of extra work for me!)

Weirdly enough, I found that the directories for The Manipulator and The Man-Bull were intact. But I moved some of the images around on the former, and added a word balloon to the latter. The Master and Mastermind got re-vamped word balloons. The cover scan for Avengers 7 is missing from the Masters of Evil folder, so I'll have to re-do that.

June 9, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Magneto's sounds are now online, plus I added a few more that I found lying about my desktop.

June 8, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Balloons for Madcap and Magneto were upgraded. Madcap and Mad Thinker bios were updated. Magneto's sounds are currently missing, so the sound links on his page aren't working yet. And speaking of missing: re-uploading the Maestro bio will take a while, since several images seem to have gone AWOL.

June 7, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Lightmaster, the Living Laser and Lunatik got new word balloons. Lunatik's first appearance was corrected (one aspect of him showed up in Creatures on the Loose years before his Defenders run). Loki's bio was completely overhauled, with about six new images, new verbage, and a couple of sounds added.

June 6, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Master Khan's and Kraven's bios are new.

June 5, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

The Black Knight bio involved re-doing his word balloon, adding the cover of Avengers 48 (Dane's first appearance as the Black Knight) and re-scanning Tales of Suspense 73 'coz I thought the image on the bio looked a little muddy. Korvac and the Leader also got new word balloons. Added the cover of DD 32 to Mister Hyde's page. Fixed the links to the balloons for the Terrorism, Inc. and the Megalomaniacs pages, and re-did the Megalomaniacs word balloon (those guys are never satisfied, though, so I'll probably have to do it again)

June 4, 1998
Bios uploaded in the last day include:

Of these, Hammerhead is brand new. Immortus, Kang and the Kingpin sport modified word balloons. The Kingpin's bio has been updated and has several new Spider-Man and DareDevil covers. Alas, one of the pictures on the Humbug bio is lost and will have to be rescanned, which will take a while.

And the frames are back. You may have noticed! However, the buttons for the menu bar aren't ready yet, and are low priority so won't be available for a while.

June 3, 1998
Welp, the site meltdown that occurred May 25th (my birthday--I didn't over-party and knock a diet Coke on the server's motherboard--honest) has caused me to go ahead and do a ton of updating, mostly of graphics, sometimes of bios. Bios through the letter "F" should be completely uploaded. Bios re-uploaded in the past day were:

Of these, word balloons were redone on all (not all are online yet). A new directory was created for Mr. Hyde. HYDRA got a slew of new images, including a scan of HYDRA's origin from Captain Savage and his Leatherneck Raiders, a couple of DareDevil covers and a Strange Tales cover. Juggernaut, HYDRA, and the Jester bios were updated. Juggy's probably going to get some new images, but I have to drag out my X-Men box for that...

Other changes of note include new sounds on both the Decepticons and the Justin Hammer bios, and many new images on the Doctor Octopus and Galactus bios. The long-promised Heroes for Hire sub-page was finally uploaded, with several bios shifted over and a new bio for Black Mariah added.

February 1, 1998
Hi, all;
As of today, the site is considered "complete." No more updates of existing bios will be done. There are a couple of dozen half-finished ones in the works, but you'll just have to surf around and figure out where those are. Thanks to all my contributors.

January 22
Kirk revised the Master of the World bio, and I updated his word balloon.

January 1
Updated Pyro's word balloon and lightened some of the bio's images.

December 13
Changed the balloon on Nebulon's page and updated the directory links on the Stilt-Man page.

November 23
Amplified and down-sampled the sounds on the Spidey Villains pages, namely: Doc Ock, the original Green Goblin, the second (or third, or forth, depending on your acceptance of retcons) Hobgoblin, the Shocker, Venom, and Carnage. What that means is that the sounds are louder and faster to download.

November 22
Turns out Sunturion is back in business! Thanks to Branden Boetticher for pointing this out, and Marty Busse and Andrew Theisen for getting me a synopsis and issue numbers.

November 13
Namor<: Replaced the cover shot of Marvel Comics 1 with a cover shot of the Human Torch 8 from 1942 -- Subby fighting the original Human Torch had a lot more historical interest, I thought!

November 11
Had way too much fun adding sounds to the A.I.M. bio. Fourteen new sounds from the Iron Man series to enjoy!

November 10
Added four more sound files and the cover of Thor 162 to the Galactus< entry, and re-wrote the "What's His Problem" part of the bio.

November 8
Added the Trapster's vendetta against Ghost Rider to his bio.

November 4
Refined the "first appearances" section on the Crossbones bio.

November 3
Added the appearance of the second Sunturion to the bio.

October 19
Not that I need to do anything to make this bio more popular, but Apocalypse now has gobs of sound bytes added.

October 17
A ton of links were added to the Masters of Evil bio, courtesy of Sean McQuaid. And I re-sampled the rate on the sounds (from 22 Hz to 11Hz), which doesn't much affect the sound quality (let's face it, this is a scratchy old 60s show recorded on a computer) but does chop the size of the sounds about in half.

October 16
Lessee, what did I mess around with today? Necrom and Steel Serpent bios were updated. Burns at rosewood@prtcnet.org let me know that the Titanium Man and the Unicorn were returned to life in Soviet Super Soldiers 1. (Can you tell my T.V.'s been broken for the last week?)

October 14
More sound bytes, thanks to the Iron Man Animated Series, can be found on The Ghost's bio.
