named challenges
1. Wish Challenge
Give a character a wish and describe what they would
do with it, as well as what they were thinking when they received it and
how they came to a decision on how to use it. It can be funny, romantic,
tragic, dramatic, etc. Submitted by Amber
2. Dumb Challenge:
A character is struck dumb (can't talk) and either blind
OR deaf. How do they communicate? Why can't they talk, see or hear? What
do they do about it? Who did it or who helps them? How did it happen? Do
they recover? Is it permanent? Is it a practical joke? Do they freak out?
Have fun!
3. Torture Challenge
Take your favorite character and torture them. Make it
playful or not. Torture doesn't have to be violent. Torture could be watching
someone you're infatuated with stand near you in a sweat drenched t-shirt,
digging a hole in the clinging heat, their muscles flexing and rippling.
Or, it could be suspecting you won the lotto and someone is purposely hiding
your ticket from you. It could mean you're being held down and tickled
until you cry. It can be many things, not just violent things. Use your
imagination! Have fun!
4. Curse Challenge
Curse your favorite characters. Make it an interesting
curse, funny, serious, spooky, romantic, whatever. How did they get it?
Why? When? What happens while they're cursed? How do they get rid of it?
DO they get rid of it? Submitted by Amber.
5. Avalanche challenge:
Trap a character in an avalanche with room to breathe
for a while. Were they on shore leave, searching for something or doing
battle? Do they get themselves out? Reflect on life? Panic? Get rescued?
Die? Repent? Go insane? Are they injured? If it's Trance, does she have
powers to get herself out (sorry, I have this mental image of her tail
poking out from the snow and waving.)If it's Rommie, how does the snow
affect her mechanics? If it's Tyr or Beka, do they realize their feelings
for each other or another and does one rescue the other? Or, does Dylan
find he can't live without Beka or Rommie and search for them? So many
questions, so many different answers.
6. One of the characters gets their fortune read or told
by a spooky old woman. Is it good, bad, revealing or comforting for the
character? Does it come to pass in your story or is it for the distant
future?
7. Secret admirer challenge:
A character has a secret admirer. Is it a lover, a stalker
a murderer? Is it someone on board the Andromeda, someone they just met,
never met, or someone from their past?
8. First sight Challenge:
Write about Rommie's feelings the first time she either:
saw Dylan from her avatar form or realized she loved him.
9. Accident Challenge
A character either has an accident and must cope with
the outcome, or knows someone that was involved in an accident and must
help them cope. The character must be the cause of the accident.
For example: Trance causes the Maru to crash and another
crewmember is injured, possibly unconscious. What does she do? OR, the
All-Knowing Harper finds he's not perfect. He accidentally causes something
to go wrong inside the Andromeda that injures other members of the crew
or himself. (Maybe he screws up the oxygen supply or causes someone an
electric shock.) OR, Tyr sabotages the Maru and then finds himself aboard
and decides to rescue Beka, who's piloting, when it crashes and burns.

in itself.
12. Flood challenge

that enters a wash and gets swept away. They can be trapped on top of a
house, or in a tree. Use your imagination and surprise us.
13. Scary challenge
Translate a scary experience from your youth into a story
using another character instead of yourself.
14. Small Fair challenge
Send a character to a small carnival or fair or charity
event. Have them enter the pie eating contest.
15. Garage Sale challenge
A character has a garage sale. Is it a sad event, the
end of a relationship? A happy event, out with the old to start a new relationship?
A vindictive story, someone selling off a significant other's stuff while
they aren't there?
16. ROMANCE CHALLENGE submitted by Amber
Are you a hopeless romantic? Do you sit around and plot
the ways a pair of characters should come together? Do you wish those two
favourite characters on that show would just see what you see and get it
together? If so, then this challenge is for you!
Write a fic, be it original or fan, of any length and
any rating, though please clearly mark the rating for those younger or
sensitive readers. If original, it can be any genre, though it has to have
an element of romance in it somewhere: one kiss, one passionate embrace,
one intimate 'moment' together, etc. If you can include all three of those,
feel free. Be as romantic as possible, without delving right into something
sickly sweet. *smile*
Use your own thread or use one from below:
-- Male character has some sort of disability, but Female
doesn't mind, finding it attractive nonetheless.
-- Female character is kidnapped and her saviour becomes
something more.
-- One night of passion months before leads to something
more lasting.
-- A blind date turns to something that could be most
rewarding for both.
-- A severe accident/illness leads to the desire to tell
the truth of the feelings held inside.
-- Female character is hired to kill Male character but
can't do it when she discovers who he is.

tease, alarm clock.
18. Lost and Found challenge:
Have a character find someone's lost wallet or purse.
What do they find inside? Money or something far more personal? What do
the contents say about the person who lost it? Do they try to return it
or do they keep it? What do their actions say about themselves? Submitted
by Chris.
19. Song line challenge:
Use a line from a song as the first line in either every
chapter of a story or every paragraph of a short story
20. Drabble challenge 2:

goats gruff....
Write a story containing three sets of three somethings.
It doesn't matter what they are. Try to make them important to the plot.
Use your imagination.
22. Originality challenge:
There are no original plots, we've all heard this. Originality
differentiates a story and makes it popular. Take a favorite story of yours
or that you've read and change it up, make it original. Change the point
of view character, change settings, follow your imagination and do whatever
comes into your head without worrying what anyone will think of it. Rewrite
the story FOR YOU. Then post it. If the story is too long, rewrite your
favorite part.
23. 7 days challenge:
An asteroid will hit the planet (or ship) in exactly 7
days. Does it destroy all life or send humanity back to the dark ages?
Does it hit Earth or an alien planet? How do your characters spend the
last 7 days of life as they know it? |
