Deli in Baltimore
(5
crabs out of 5)
Paul-Picture your ideal New York deli (which is one
of the few things I like about NYC) but add in that the people
behind the counter call you 'hon'. This is the best way to describe
Attman's. I came here for lunch and got the hot corned beef (the
basic test for any deli). I must admit I didn't like that they
nuked it to heat it up (though to their credit the food comes
much faster that way and they do cut it right there for you) and
there could have been a bit more meat for my taste but otherwise
this it the best corned beef sandwich you can get in the area.
The meat was juicey, not too fatty, and full of that nice salty
flavor. The bread they used was pretty good too. They also have
everything from great looking knishes to specialty sanwiches to
bagel'n lox to crab soup. You can get your order to go or on a
tray and sit in the kibbitz room. The service is fast and deli
style (ie. they are hurried and push you along with your order
with just the right amout of politness mixed with an in your face
attitude). One note, if you go there make sure you don't park
in the street if you can help it. They have parking across the
street and I suggest using it. Corned Beef Row isn't exactly the
safest of neighborhoods and when you go there it looks it. The
few delis that are still open look fine but they are surrounded
by abandoned rough looking buildings. If you go there for lunch
there is a crowd and there should be any problem. But the next
time you get a hankering for some Jewish style deli food you should
take the time and head down to Attman's. It is definately the
best deli in the Baltimore.
