Paul-If you happen to be in the
neighborhood of Fort McHenry stop off at the Olde Malt Shop on
the corner of Webster street and Fort ave. When you walk in you'll
notice right away the old fashioned charm of the place with all
of the decorations from things 1960s and before. Complete with
soda fountains you can get anything from a ice cream to a hot
dog and you can take it to go or sit in one of the comfortable
booths provided. In the back there is also a beauty salon if you
want to get a quick haircut. Wisely, the salon is behind a door
and down the hall so it doesn't disturb the great atmosphere.
Earl, the owner, seems more interested in good service and having
fun running the business than making money off of you which only
adds to the charm. If you order a milk shake, which I usually
do, he fills up a nice large cup for you and lets you finish the
leftovers in the metal canister while he gets you your change.
The milkshake itself is great. It's not watery and its not so
thick you have to bust a vein to get something though the straw.
He uses Hershey's ice cream which makes for great rich flavor,
especially if you go for a chocolate shake. The only minus is
that the hours though usually consistant can sometime change without
much warning and understandably the place isn't open as often
in the winter months. All in all, you get great serivice and a
great product here.
