COUNTING THE COST
Mary Lois Bierman
Our home fellowship service.

We see in the scriptures many times about counting the cost. Just what does counting the cost mean to you or I? What has it cost us to become a child of our Heavenly Father?

For some it means loosing family, or great wealth. For each of us it meant a whole new way of life. Did the cost of what we gave up, ring up to the total sum of what the Son of our Heavenly Father did for us?

What does it mean to you or I when we read that He was wounded for our transgressions? What do your or I feel when we read that He was bruised. It was for our short falls, goof ups, mistakes, our not caring, and living in the flesh any way we wanted! All those stripes that were laid on His back, that is where all those things iniquities were laid. Because of that, we were cleared of all guilt for all things past, and in future if we repent of them. It cost Him His life for you and I to be a Child of our Father. In our lives what cost can be compared to that?

HIDDEN THIEVES

All we can have is one master. What was our master before we became a believer? What is it now? Do we let things slide because we have forgotten the cost of our being a child of our Father?

We have thieves that live among us every day. They will rob us of a precious relationship with our Father and His Son. They will get our eyes off our goal, steal our time, engage our minds where we forget to pray, and read the scriptures. What are these thieves? Excuses, slothfulness, getting to busy in non-productive pursuits, or distractions in life. The list could go on and on. They have one end result. They weaken us in the most important things we should be doing in our lives. The adversary will use them to cause us to get further away from our Heavenly Father.

WHAT IS YOUR MISSION?

We pray for a mission in our life. For our Father to use us. How well we do with what He gives us is a governor of what He can trust us with. Has He given us a mission? How well have we tilled the soil, planted, watered, weeded, and worked it? Has the enemy, the thief of time robbed you or I from doing our work?

It is interesting to read of the times in the OT where the farmers were told to leave the corners of the fields UN-reaped. It was for those in need. In our fields of truth that we have been reaping from, have we left the corners full with the food of truth? Do we have something to offer those in need? How often do we share our bounty with others?

Do we shy away because of the reason that they will not listen anyway? We are told in the scriptures that they will not listen because of the hardness of their hearts. The man that was told this, was told what He did with what he heard was what was counted. It was not what someone else did with what he told them.

We should go forth ready to share the message written in scriptures. Each of us doing something. Maybe we see it as empty results. The results we want are the ones recorded in heaven. The ones that says, "well done my faithful servant."
