Back in the 50's daddy had a garden that was about 150 yards from the house. It was near a branch. Woods were between the house and garden. I loved taking walks with mamma. One day we walked down to the garden area. My mom got all excited. Looking toward where she pointed, I saw blowing in the wind Daddy's under shirts hanging from the peach tree limbs.
When mamma asked daddy why did he hang his under shirts on in the peach trees. He told her it was to stop the deer from eating the peaches. They would smell the human odor and leave them alone. He was close to nature. He loved his garden, and loved the deer also, but not when they stole his peaches. Yet he would not hurt the deer, just try to scare them away. Many years later when he was quite elderly he would stand at the window, and look out in the full moon light at the deer in the yard. He took such delight telling us about seeing them.
I think about how protective daddy was over those peaches. My Father in heaven gave His Son to protect me, to buy me back from the adversary. He has angels camped about me to protect me and others He is going to give salvation to. Daddy's under shirts were not a sure fire way to protect his peaches, but my heavenly Fathers protection of His kids is fail proof.
