The Scoob's Chronicles
HOME
Aug 4:  We start off with a little sad news. Our trusty old Ford tow truck, burned up 2 weeks ago Sunday morning. Seems it was the victim of some good old Ford wiring woes. If you've never had a fire you would not believe the amout of devistation a fire can do. The good news was that the trailer didn't burn because I was still in the trailer. Now that woulda been a big Rut Row! that's for sure.
Ok well we did have a rain out last week but with no real rain in the forcast for the weekend, we loaded up the ole open trailer and hooked it to ole GMC and off to the races we went. Wait a minute, Jim forgot me!! Oh my, now who's gonna spot for Jim?
Well since I forgot Scooby I'll pick it up here, sorry ole boy next week. Ok now here's a change I get to tell it without the old dog exaggerating.  Anyway I had talked to Pokey on the way to GPS and even though this was his off week, he let's me know he's coming but will be late.  So I get the car unloaded and set the tire pressures. Comes time for packing the track and I get talking with our techman Bear, and miss packing. Ok now problem. Comes time to go out for hot laps, crank er up and the car goes to some strang missing junk. So I climb back out pop the hood and start checking on things and realize it's carburator. By the time I get the carb calmed down, I miss hot laps. This is starting to give me a strange feeling. Sinc ethe car's ready and Pokey comes strolling in, I hand him the tire gauge and go and check the line up. Not bad, inside third row with 2 fast cars directly in front of me, missed packing, missed hot laps, carburator doesn't like me tonight, this outa be good. So  heat time comes up we get in line, get on the track, get the green flag and someone sneaking by on my inside and I say, no way not tonight and start my move up, get back into fifth, a lap later in forth, on the white flag lap I get third and finish in thirc. Hmm, not bad. Carburator still isn't quit right, but all the tires are up and we're in one peice.
Feature time and we get the same starting spot, inside third row. Kinda like it here. On the start in the 2nd turn I'm looking at the broad side of 2 cars spinning and dodge em. After the restart we're all kinda bunched up going through turn 4 I get pushed around and just as I'm about to driven through the drivers door the car comes around and I slap our point leader's nose about off and realize I have a flat right rear(imagine that, me having a flat tire). Well into the pits and the Thunder Heads come outa no where led by Pokey and I get my tire changed and rejoin the pack (in the back) before the green comes out.  When the green flies it's off to the races. I get to start picking off a car here and there and with the new tire on, the car is really coming around and working like it should. I also have our point leader coming behind me(remember the car I tried to take the bumper off?) but it's all good and at the checker we cross the line in third, third? Let's see, missed packing and hot laps, carb messed up, flat tire in the feature, man maybe it was good I forgot Scooby at home, I don't think he coulda handled all this.  So untill next, don't forget Scooby like's Scooby Snacks.  See ya at the Park'!
Oh yeah and I won't forget Scooby next week.

Aug 11: Someone left me home again!! Then again after Jim told me what an exciting night he had I was probally safer here. Jim said his night started off a little strange as Lanny Hobbs our track promoter used our class to try something, double file restarts. Jim said it was interesting and outside of a getting used to it, it will most likely please the fans in the long run. Now to start his nigt off, in hot laps it seems Jim tried Barrel Racing without any success except to place the barrel under  the car, rut row. Then right before the 1st heat, the car started it's little missing thing again and Pokey dove under the hood and finally found that we had a broken spark plug wire, got it straightened out and Jim's ready for the 1st heat. Now he did draw the pole position for the 1st heat, and at the green flag he set sail and had Bubba Nations pull him down the front straightaway into the 1st turn and he stayed 2nd the rest of the way. In the pits, Pokey starts doing his magic with the tires and told Jim he tried something a little different and see how it worked. OK no problem.  Well Jim lines up inside 2nd row for the feature and at the green there's a lot cars all together in turn 1 with a lot of bumping and a spin. Restart next and the 1st attemp with the double file restart. Jim goes sailing into the 1st turn on the green and gets into 4th but then coming through turn 2 it gets interesting again and  guess what, yep, tire off the rim. Well he gets into the pits and Lee Jones gets there first and since we all share the same pit area, Jim's number 2 to get the tire chaged. Well tire changed and reenter in the back of field. On the restart it gets jumbled up again. It seems the cars on the outside on the restarts think no ones on the inside and come down and oops there are cars there and a lot of contact. A few laps later after another restart, Jim's fighting a lose car and gets in contact and wheel hops another car in the first turn twice, does a slide out of turn 2 and slaps the inside wall, yup, another tire off the rim and in the pits. This time Pokey and the Thunderheads get him back out but at the green Jim finds out that the new right rear tire definitlly has the car so loose that Jim just drops to the bottom of the track for the last 3 laps to just finish and at the checker gets lapped, but he does get to finish 6th and hopes that it helps in the point race which is winding down real quick.
Now this is Tuesday and Monday night Jim gets the car back in the garage and assesses the damage he finds that the frame is bent 2 1/4" to the right, we have 4 rims to fix, and him and Pokey have decided that what Pokey tried with the tires, might not be the way to go next time.  We also had a little issue with truck Jim bought last week to replace the old Ford that burned up, but he made it home with the help of Pokey and Mark Posey. So next week is just a few days away and we'll be ready for it. See ya at the Park' (yes I will be there next week!!).
