March 24, 2006. Welcome back. It's the start of a new season but alas we are not racing yet. We do have the car down to the frame and cage. We have rebuilt the steering, we need to lower the seat some and work on the rear suspension some. Some time in the next two weeks we'll have the new body delivered and will start on it. The biggest thing though is going to be the motor. With the new rules at I-20 and Modoc bringing us up to date with the upstate track's rules so that we'll be competitive with them, it definitely going to cost quit a bit more than we anticipated. Well thats racing and waiting a little bit longer compared to running what we had been and being a back runner will definitely be worth the wait. On the upside to all this, we made a trade for a enclosed trailer over the winter and it will definitely be bigger and able to hold all our gear instead of dumping in the back of the truck. This will also give another canvas for our advertisers(and we're still looking for more). So back to the garage to watch Jim work and if I'm lucky I'll find some Scooby Snacks and have a Scooby Doo day. See ya at the races. September 21, 2006. Well as you might have noticed we have not been racing so far this year. We have been reworking the car. Jim has worked on the suspension and he has also hung a NEW body on the car. It's still a Mustang but he purchased a Ray Line Mustang body and has hung it on the car. This was Jim's first time at hanging a body and he did a right good job of it. After making the chassis changes we decided not to rebuild the motor and update it to the Super Stock 4 rules. I-20 speedway had closed and Gordon Park Speedway in Augusta, Ga had rules that we could race with our existing motor. Now for the fun stuff. Last Saturday we took it to Gordon Park for the first time this year. Jim normally pumps the tires up a little heavy we he leaves the house and today was not an exception. When the track opened up for hot laps there went Jim, he jumps onto the track and after 2 laps of skating he remembers, he forgot to drop the tire pressure. Into the pits. OK well no harm done, he resets the tires to a pressure recommended by a very good freind who helps outand waits for his heats. Heat one and we line up inside row 2 and after taking the green he sets his sites on the #2 car. He said the car was still a pit loose but chalked it up to not being on the track this year, until the 2nd lap. Back comes around and the inside wall in turn 4 gets REAL close and he bumps the wall. Hmmmm, that ain't what Jim wants. We he gets it bake around, falls into the rear and finished 5th, ok last but safe. After a little thought and changing of tire pressures again wwe line up 10th for the feature. im hears a l miss (?) and goes back to the trailer and has our ole friend Richard Crook (aka Pokey) check for a loose plug wire. Nothing loose and the miss goes a way, gets flagged onto the track and gets a good lap and half of full throttle to catch up (extra hot laps, nice). The green drops and in the the first lap and half Jim gets by 3 cars, going into the 2nd turn on the 2nd lap and at the worst time cuts down the left front tire and hits the wall witrh his foot still in the gas, not good. Well Jim's ok nad actually he was tickled in how the car ran and handled. Now the car's a different story. Besides the tire and wheel being history, the front end is bent pretty good, the steering rack is shot. As it turns out, Jim is waiting for one of two frame machines to open up so we can get the front back into it's correct place. Jim also found that both front brake rotors were locked and wouldn't release which he is sure didn't help much, or maybe they did. No matter, Jim has to take the next five weeks off unless the frame machine opens up tomorrow night so he can race Saturday at Gordon Park but then the following four weeks we'll be off. So stay tuned and stay Safe, we're coming back! Also remember, have a Scooby Doo Day and save me soem snacks! |
