Cubmaster's Notes
2006 - 2007

2005 - 2006     2004 - 2005

February 17, 2007

Congratulations to the boys who crossed into Boy Scouts this afternoon. It was was a very elaborate ceremony performed by the Order of the Arrow. It was hard to believe these young men were leaving us as I have watched them grow up through the ranks of Cub Scouting and cannot believe this time is here already. We wish you good luck and many happy times ahead!

Just wanted to let you know that I have put up the Committee Minutes. I am really looking forward to Blue & Gold Sunday evening. If possible, try and get there before 5:00 so that you can get your cakes checked in and see the others before we get started. If is going to be a very fun-filled evening I think everyone will enjoy. Remember, your sons have earned this and you should be very proud of them.

Can't wait until this Sunday. The Blue & Gold Committee has worked very hard and they have everything planned and ready to go. Anyone who would like to help setup, we will begin about 1:00 in the afternoon. The updated Cake-Bake rules are available as either a Word Document or PDF Document by clicking on the appropriate link.

Hope to see everyone there!

Hi all. I have put up the notes from this past committee meeting. I hope everyone is ready for the Pinewood Derby Saturday! It should be a great time. Remember, check-in time is 8:30am so be prompt and be ready.

Any parents who would like to help with set up Friday evening, we will be there about 6:30. Parents can race their own car that night so bring them if you made them.

We have things pretty well figured out for Blue & Gold Banquet. You will be getting the Cake-Bake Rules at the Derby Saturday. Also, anyone who has not made reservations needs to have them to Lisa by Saturday morning before you leave the derby. We need to get the final figures to the caterers.

Also, Scout Sunday is right around the corner. It is February 4 and we would like to make a good showing for our Charter Organization so if anyone can attend the 10:30 service that morning, I would appreciate it. They do quite a bit for our unit and this is one easy way to say thank you. If you would like to help out with the service, please let Melinda Etling know. She will be taking care of this for us and I am sure she would appreciate anyone who would like to help.

Get those engines revved up and we'll see you Saturday!

I want to thank all of you who came out to make the Santa Parade such as great hit this past Saturday. I know with the terrible ice storm, many people were still getting their power, phones, etc. back together and I was quite impressed with the turnout from everyone.

The notes from this evening have been posted and I would appreciate everyone taking time to review them. I know the holidays are upon us (where did this year go!) but we need to start preparing for our Blue & Gold Banquet. We would like to ask one parent from each Den to serve on the committee to help get everything together. We will be having it catered again this year as our popcorn sales were out the roof! Please let your den leader or myself know if you are interested in serving. We will then schedule our first meeting for later this month.

Keep safe, warm and don't forget our December Pack Meeting!

November 19, 2006

Just a few quick notes. First, I'd like to thank everyone who helped out with Scouting for Food last weekend and this weekend. We were about 200 items below what we collected last year, but we still collected over 4700 items. Thanks for all of your hard work. You will help to make the holidays better for so many people!

Please take some time to download the notes from our last Committee Meeting. We have a few things coming up quickly as the holiday season approaches. The Santa Parade is coming up on Saturday Dec 2. We have gotten the big wagon again this year and (don't tell the kids) Santa will be riding in it. We will have the leaders be reindeer this year pulling the wagon as well. We are going to try and have some kids be elves and some be presents. Anyone who can help would be appreciated.

Please don't forget Turkey Bowling tomorrow evening at Pack Meeting. Remember it is at the fire station on Railway. It still begins at 6:30. See you there!

Thank you to everyone for a great Pack Meeting! It's a shame it couldn't be at the campground. I hope everyone enjoyed Tex as much as I do and I want to give him a special great big thank you for taking the time to come and share his knowledge and skills with us. It is members of our community such as he that make the Scouting experience possible.

Thanks also to all of you who have worked so hard selling popcorn. I know Jeff will let us know when he has the totals but I have no doubt in my mind that we will meet our goal. You truly are a great group of Scouters from the Tiger Cubs and their Adult Partners & families to the Webelos Scouts and their families.

I've got the notes up from our latest Committee Meeting so please try and take the time to download them and see what's going on. I mentioned most of the upcoming items for the next month this evening, but there are many other items that we discuss at Committee Meeting that pertain to our Pack and it is always good to know what's going on and coming up!

This weekend is the Fall Festival here in town and we will be helping to keep water at the different stations. I am still working on a schedule so I may be contacting you to see if you can help.

I apologize for not getting the Committee notes up sooner. My computer crashed Wednesday evening and by time it got it to the point of working reasonably well Friday, it was time for camping. I have finally got them up this evening. The updated budget and plan are not quite finished yet as we are still signing up new scouts and will probably add a den or two. I get them up as soon as we get it finished.

I think everyone enjoyed the family campout this weekend. We had a great time and super camping weather. Thanks to all the leaders and parents that helped to make the weekend a fun time for everyone and thanks especially to the kids who were great campers, excellent boat makers and good sports when we had our races! I really enjoyed the weekend and I hope everyone else did to. See you tomorrow evening.

Seeing the front page of the Belleville News Democrat today brought tears to my eyes. The ceremony yesterday at Mascoutah Elementary was one of great respect for those whose lives were lost on that terrible day five years ago. I was so proud to see the scouts of our Pack and our Pack leaders taking time to participate in such a special celebration. But also, back in the background behind Melinda Etling is a little preschooler in a red shirt some of you may recognize. It is my little son Ben giving the Cub Scout salute as the ceremony takes place. He is only four years old so he wasn't even born when this great tragedy happened and yet he knows the respect that should be given on this occasion. Although I think my wife and I have helped to teach him respect for many things, the respect he shows as the flag is raised is a respect he has learned as he has grown up around Cub Scout Pack 43 and we should be proud that we can reach children of all ages. I thank you all for you truly represent the meaning of Scouting.

I am trying to get the website up to date with all of the latest information for the beginning of the year. The budget will be revised based on the actual number of new scouts we recruit and the plan has a couple of changes that will be made hopefully after the next Committee Meeting.

If we get the majority of interested scouts, we will grow quite a bit larger than previously anticipated. We had 15 interested scouts and families at Join Scouting Night and I have mailed 10 additional packets to interested families who were unable to attend. I am looking forward to a very exciting year and hope that we can get some additional parents involved as well. If asked, please make sure you share the great experiences and benefits of being an adult leader within our Cub Scout Pack as, I believe, everyone who is currently helping to lead our Pack has had a truly rewarding experience in doing so. I know I have enjoyed my time as a leader in helping the young boys grow and learn over the last few years. The smiles on their faces when they earn an award and the fun they have had at the various activities we have helped to plan are truly a reward to me. I look forward to seeing everyone over the next couple of weeks.
