The popularly loved masterpiece with its honesty and humor were so accurate to the real war going on that the army wouldn't at first release the movie to enlisted troops(but they later relented). This accuracy makes the movie so great along with the sense of community, and great bondage betwen the people through terrible times. That's what gives this movie its depth and greatness besides the obvious; comedy. This movie is kind of a tribute, thought by some people; a tribute to the brave hard working men and women over there fighting for the country, it celebrates their human spirit and the nobility of dedication and the exploring of life.
This was the filmaker Robert Altman, who won "best film" and "best director" for the making of M*A*S*H
The Theme song, "suicide is painless" was an amazing hit for the movie and later on the tv series. The song is almost perfect, with its gentleness and sorrow, it just depicts the times of the movie... Along with the lyrics; that captures the spirit of the movie, this song could be deemed perfect!
